  1. I'm wanting to get upload the program from a CompactLogix L31 Controller.  I'm using a generic (non Allen Bradley) "C2G brand" usb -->rs232 cable coming directly off of my laptop because I don't have a serial port out.  The rs232 side of the C2G cable is a "pin out" or male end, and as you can see in the picture, the serial port at Channel 1 on the controller is also male.  I'm using a generic (non-Allen Bradley) null modem (female-->female) cable to complete the connection.  Ultimately, I'm not seeing the controller on linx.  But that's a result of me not being able to configure the driver.  When I try to auto configure this driver, Linx gives me an error saying, "Unable to verify settings due to a NAK!" btw, the rs232 cable going into channel 0 is for the HMI on the machine. A pv600 1. How do I get online and upload the program from the controller? 2. What does NAK mean?
  2. Q03UDVCPU

I am new with PLC's and I am learning how to work with GX Works 2. I have two questions, 1st Question: Using a Q series PLC (Q03UDVCPU) Is it possible to convert the language of a project from ladder logic to structured text? 2nd Question: If I read a project from a PLC why is it always ladder logic? Is there any way to read out structured text?
  3. Hi I'm looking for Ladder Logic code that I could use for a plastic injection molding machine.  I am willing to purchase and/or modify existing code to meet our specifications.  We have lost the Ladder Logic out of the TI/Siemens Controller on our Newbury 100 Plastic Machine so we're looking at replacing both the PLC and the HMI interface with an Automation Direct Controller.  We have the HMI Basic Code for the Newbury but not the ladder.  I've pasted the manual below for our machine.  Any assistance would be much appreicated.  The manual was too large for me to post but I've posted a document with information about how we intend to upgrade which has a little information about the machine also. 4. Hello! I have a project where I need to use Allen Bradley PLC, it might be one of CompactLogic series. In scope of the project I need to transfer few real values to DirectLogic PLC that installed on customer side. DirectLogic PLC has installed ethernet card that support Modbus TCP, TCP/IP and UDP/IP protocols as it says on automationdirect website. I start looking for Allen Bradley PLC that support Modbus TCP or TCP/UDP protocol and did find clear information. Could you help me to find out a way how I can pass the data to directlogic PLC from CompactLogic?   Thank you in advance!   Regards, Scotty

How could I find ON State duration of an Input/Output, in Compact Logix PLC? So it would help me to show in HMI that how long the I/O is ON.Kindly assist me.Thanks in advance
  6. Hi..  someone please help me.. i'm working in omron CS1H-H CPU67 PLC. My struggle is I/O in one particular rung is not getting updated.  Note: the rung is consist of a P_On flag followed by a FB ; all I/O to the FB were correctly assigned. but the inputs inside the FB instance are not getting updated so that the output not updated. can anyone please help me....????   sorry for my poor english... thanks in advance.
  7. I need to run 4 exactly same devices with 4 different controllers. The logic for them would be exactly the same but the IPs and controller names would be different. Is there a way to do it using 1 project file? Basically whenever download is done the logic would be downloaded but the controller name/IP would be left unchanged. They will be connected to the same network so the IPs must be different. I am using 1769-L32E for these and all racks are set up exactly the same. Any ideas?

  11. Hi Everyone, I'm working on my first PLC program and I have gotten my hands on some ladder logic I'm trying to duplicate. I'm using SoMachine 4.1 and have started a new Ladder Logic diagram POU. I'm curious on how do I create internal contacts. EXAMPLE: 24v--------l START BUTTON l----------------( COIL A)----- --------------l COIL A CONTACT 1; attached to a real output, solenoid valvel-------------l COIL A INTERNAL CONTACT TO CLOSE l---------------- Are there standards for numbering and labeling? I'm seeing L and U inside coil contacts. Does this have an underlying meaning according to standard? Is there a RTO function inside SoMachine 4.1
  12. Hi everyone, I'm a newbie in the ladder logic programming languages. For my thesis project I've to develop a scenario but I'm stuck with the creation of a socket connection from the Modicon M340 PLC to a server for transfer continuous data given from sensors or similar. Does anyone have a sample program that could have such a functionality so that I can change it based on my needs? Thanks in advice for any further reply!
  13. Hello, I am currently working on programming my first sortation system.  Attached is a blue print of the in feed conveyors and their loadout lines.  As boxes merge together they will be scanned by the barcode scanner.  From there we will be told which lane each box must go down, from the WCS.   My question is, without encoders, what would be the best way to control this system? Counting the packages as they pass through the photoeye? Or setting timers?   Thanks, James Sorting Conveyor Layout.pdf
  14. Has anybody tried communicating Allen Bradley 5069 Compact logix PLC with Red Lion HMI ?  I am unable to communicate them in spite of adding AB tags via L5K file which gives me no error. I am able to see all the tags in Crimsion 3.0 software in development mode.  However, PLC & HMI are not communicating with each other. I am able to ping to both, using the same program in PLC of which I generated L5K file.  I think it may have something to do with the driver as 5069 is a new line of PLC Rockwell come out with only in 2016.
  15. Thanks for your time.  We have purchased from auction a Getinge Autoclave (sterilizer) with Allen-Bradley controls (CompactLogix L32E).  The machine has a PanelView Plus 1000 installed.  A CD came with the machine w/ the following files.. HMI Project - (.apa file) Runtime (.mer file) Their is also a compact flash card installed in the CompactLogix L32E.  On the Panel View, their is an external Compact Flash slot, but no card, and on the inside of the panel view (if i remove the back cover) their is a compact flash card slot with a card installed.  I haven't checked what is on either of those cards yet.. We cannot get the program to load on the panel view. When the machine is powered on, the panel view goes through a quick dos setup screen and then the screen turns blue and we are stuck with an hour glass icon.  The icon will move depending upon where you touch on the screen.  I can boot the panel view in safe mode (by hitting the default button, then reset) at which point I get a message stating that the machines files may be corrupted and leaves me the options to Download new Firmware, or Continue.  Hitting Continue nothing happens, and choosing Download gives me Ethernet, or Serial options.  The Panel View is connected to the PLC via ethernet so I choose this option and it  gets stuck at this point. We do not want to make any changes to the program, but just to get it to run on the machine.  We do not have ANY of the software. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Craig

  20. Monitor alarm block

Hi all, I would like to monitor the status of my alarm word (MW100) and if any bit turns from 0 to 1 then an alarm signal should be generated, am new to siemens plc and am having a tough time accomplishing this easily. In omrom CX programmer its quite easy to do. Could anyone help me on this using ladder logic, all help will be deeply appreciated.  Regards, Ablex  PS: I'm using Step 7 V5.5

  22. Hi guys, I'm in the middle of a little university project, I'm attempting to implement a control system purely based on artificial intelligence. A neural network will be used to map the characteristics of a power plant. A fuzzy logic controller will be used instead of the conventional PID and finally a genetic algorithm will be used to tune the controller while the system is online. This is all simulated of course. Each of those AI's will be developed in Matlab. Only problem with that is, is it outputs the code in C or C++ (From memory). I would have to convert this to structured text (Based on Pascal). So to circumvent this problem I thought I would just directly interface matlab to the PLC (Schneiders M340).  My idea being, all the calculations are done in matlab which are then sent back to the PLC. However this presents me with a new problem of how I would be able to interface matlab to the PLC. If anyone has experience with this sort of connectivity, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, Luchek
  23. Hi, I am using syswin and i am doing an exercise on saving and moving data. My challenge is am monitoring temperature from a sensor and the range is -20'C to 100'C from the 4-20mA sensor, after conversion and testing for positive and negative the values are stored in D205. (I have done the conversion and testing for positive and negative values only assigning of bit 15 in D205 is left) The simple program has to turn on Bit 15 if the value is supposed to be negative. 1000 0000 0000 0001, a simple approach to telling us this is -1’C.  0000 0000 0000 0001, is telling us this is 1’C. Bit 15 is going to be our Sign Flag, so we have to ensure that if the temperature is positive then  Bit 15 = 0, how can we do this make Bit 15 of D205 = 0? If the temperature is negative then  Bit 15 = 1, how can we do this make Bit 15 of D205 = 1? How can i turn on this bit inside a data word? for negative i thought i could just add #8000 to the values after conversion then storing in D205 but for positive values how do i ensure that bit 15 is 0? How could you approach this? Am a bit stuck, all thoughts and ideas are much appreciated if possible you could add a snapshot from syswin or cx-programmer. I have attached the WTANK.SWP file which can be opened in syswin or cx-programmer. Look in block Main 8 Temp Buffer, Network 3 Convert to 'C WTANK.SWP
  24. It's another BOOTP post! I know you're all as excited as I am, so lets get started. But seriously, I'm trying to disable BOOTP on the built in Ethernet ports, not on an Ethernet module. I specifically say disable because BOOTP successfully assigns the IP address to my Compact Logix, however I still need to disable BOOTP to make it a static IP address rather than a dynamic IP address. I'm going to list everything that I have tried, so that anyone with the same issue can have an all-in-one-place reference. (Because there's a number of forum posts and other information for this topic on the internet, with many different suggestions) If I see different ideas/suggestions in other places, I can edit them into this post. Things I have tried: (and you should try if you have this issue) Disabling all firewalls, (For me: Windows/Avast) Disabling all other network adaptors. (Wifi especially, but any and all adaptors you are not using for the setup) Using a different laptop/operating system: (My current laptop runs windows 8.1 and uses a Linksys usb to Ethernet device to talk to the PLC, I tried a laptop running windows 7 which communicated using a built in Ethernet port) Lastly: Try to use all available methods to disable it. For me, that would be: BOOTP standalone server, RSLinx, (Trying to use both USB and Ethernet connections) and finally RSLogix. (Actually, only Ethernet modules have a "disable BOOTP" checkbox built into RSLogix, so that is not an option for me.) [If you have an Ethernet module, go to port configuration in RSLogix and uncheck the "enable BOOTP" checkbox] Anyway, RSLinx Classic (version 3.71) and BOOTP Standalone server (version 2.32) are each coming back with an error when I try to disable BOOTP. I'll attach a .jpg of some screenshots, and some Wireshark save files to show what I mean. In the RSLinx Wireshark file, it shows a "privilege violation" packet being sent from the PLC to the laptop towards the end of the exchange, but I'm not sure what privileges the laptop needs/doesn't have. For the wireshark files: I cleared everything happening before I try to send the command, so that there isn't a ton to search through. As far as timing of the wireshark files go: I start recording traffic, send the disable command (by clicking the disable BOOTP/DHCP button on BOOTP server or "apply" on RSLinx) then I stop recording traffic once I get the error message. So, the captured packets should be just the attempt to disable BOOTP and that's about it. I am sorry that I the pictures are strung together using paint, but I don't have photoshop on my work computer so it's the best I have. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated! (Regardless of whether they are suggestions for me, or suggestions that I may have missed intended for anyone with this problem.) Thank you for your time. Edit: I had the attached pictures open in paint/photo viewer, sorry that they look bad in the forum picture viewer. BOOTP_wireshark.pcapng rs_linx_USB_wireshark.pcapng rs_linx_wireshark.pcapng
