  1. Hello, We have a FX3G connected to a FX3U-ENET-ADP inside a main cabinet. We are then using that master PLC to collect data from 2 other fx3g plcs in a node:node serial network. I was assigned a small project of pricing out some wireless adapters so we can upload/download to the two slave plcs. My question is, is it possible to upload/download programs to/from the slave plcs through the ENET adapter and serial network in the main plc? It would save us some money if possible. thanks.
  2. Hi fellow PLC veterans, I am new in the PLC world so please forgive me if my questions read dumb to you..   I am just wondering if there are any newer PLC machines that can: 1. keep the program even after its battery is completely flat or faulty  (Is this even possible?) 2. allow users to copy and save the program somewhere so one can install the program again without the need/presence of the machine supplier What tools/software may be required?   Thank you for reading and look forward to your response :)
  3. Hello all, is anybody out there who may read out a program that is stored on a telemecanique cartridge (more or less of 1993)? Program is still running on a TSX 47 40, but have an identical second cartridge. I would send it to him/her even if international post and do not necessarily require the cartridge back. Would be great to have the program as a text file / pdf / hardcopy. Any help appreciated!! Best regards Stefan
  4. Structure Text REAL constant

Hello. I'm having difficulties of how to write REAL constant in ST. For example (Gap1 is defined as REAL): Gap1:= UDINT_TO_REAL(P_Cycle_Time_Value) / +1000.0;     RETURNS ERROR ERROR:   Conversion cannot convert from Integer Literal to REAL I have also tried 1000.0 If I use:  Gap1:= UDINT_TO_REAL(P_Cycle_Time_Value) / INT_TO_REAL(1000);  COMPILES OK My question.. How do I write REAL constant in Structure text? I don't want to use  INT_TO_REAL anytime I want to do calculations with constants.. Thanks. BR.
  5. I am looking for how others have set up vertical axis motions using the Kinetix 5700 servo system. I have a 2 axis pick/place unit with a horizontal axis (X @ 2500mm) and vertical axis (Z @ 1200mm) that works as designed during normal operation. X axis has no holding brake and Z axis has a factory installed 24vdc to unlock brake. There is a GuardLogix L81ES control system that handles the safety and control. On pressing E-stop/opening Gates the vertical axis will stop the motion, apply the brake and hold with no problems. (2198-D032-ERS3 Drive, 2198-P031 Bus Power, MPL-B430P-MJ72AA X Axis, MPL-B330P-MJ74AA Z axis) The issue that I ran into was an accidental download of the program without activating the e-stop and the vertical axis dropped unexpectedly when entering program mode on the processor. I am aware that this instance was my fault as the programmer, however I am also concerned that this might occur again in the future if the controller ever enters fault mode or someone else completes a download. I have done some investigation with the "ProgrammedStopMode" parameter on this single motion axis and attempted all 5 options and the vertical axis still has a free fall drop for a second before the brake grabs hold - so evidently this is not working for me. (Page 24 of Vertical Load/Holding Brake manual - https://literature.rockwellautomatio...t003_-en-p.pdf) I am curious if there needs to be something done elsewhere as the X and Z axis are set up as coordinated axis? I also am unaware if I need to preform some action/parameter with the bus power supply for this? The current state of the machine as it sits now is preforming a MSF in manual mode after 5 seconds of inactivity or 30 seconds in auto mode. This axis is usually in demand every ~22 seconds. This will shut down the axis after preforming a brake test on the vertical load and seems to function OK, however it is still in the back of my mind the issues mentioned previously if we ever enter a controller fault while indexing. Thanks for your insight
  6. What Is a PLC Communication Error?

PLC doesn't respond to communication requests or responds negatively to such requests. A PLC communication error can occur between the programmable computer and the devices it controls or when the technician attempts to program the device. If anybody have idea then share i am fresher now i learn it from CETPA INFOTECH. I think this is the best place to ask.
  7. Hi, As part of developing an EtherNet/IP driver for the CLX family, I have the task of recognising tags that would ordinarily be represented as strings. With SLC/ML, that wasn't too difficult since strings were a pre-defined type found in files with a file type of 0x8d. With CLX, I understand that the situation is quite different, since a string now becomes just another structured tag like so many others. So, for instance, in my controller, and with the help of information gleaned from the LogixTagRead program, I can see that a request sent for one particular tag (which I happen to know is a string) returns me the following information: Tag type: A0 02, followed by, Structure handle: CE 0F, followed by, Length (DINT): 1A 00 00 00, followed by, Data (Series of SINT): 41 42 43 and so on through to 58 59 5A Now in one sense I am fairly clear how to interpret most of the above data -- but in another sense, I don't believe (unless I'm missing something) that it can ever tell me that this tag should be INTERPRETED as a string. What do I mean by that ? Well, the tag type of A0 02 simply says that this tag is a structure (because the top bit is set). Even if we were to unset the top bit, the value becomes 20 02 and I'm not sure if that has significance in itself. I'm not sure if the structure handle (aka template id) of CE 0F tells me anything other than the fact that this is a symbol type of CE 8F. I know that this field can be looked up and will tell me that this structure comprises a C4 (DINT) followed by data comprising a series of C2 (SINTs) where the number of SINTs is given by the value of the DINT preceding. And, of course, this makes sense in that the DINT value of 1A 00 00 00 is decimal 26, followed by 41 42 43 ... 58 59 5A which is a 26-character string ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. This is all correct. So whilst this LOOKS like a string, how can my code be sure that it is actually to be INTERPRETED as a string ? At the end of the day, it is only a DINT followed by a series of SINT; this doesn't of itself mean it is a string. Is there anything in the tag type or structure handle which actually identifies this as a string-type tag ? Thanks.

  9. Hi, I'll apologise for asking noob questions before I start - please don't shoot, but searching for existing answers on this is very difficult for me as I'm not confident in what search terms to use to get some appropriate results! And I'm afraid there are several aspects to my question too. I'm a software developer tasked with extending an existing EtherNet/IP driver. The driver already has the ability to identify atomic data in a range of AB controller models (by specifying a file type, file number, element and sub-element). The driver can then issue the appropriate commands (at the different link layers) to read the values of that atomic data, and write new values back. I have some test hardware:  (1) Control Logix 1756-ENBT (2) SLC 500 1747-L551 (3) MicroLogix 1400 1766-L32BWA (4) CompactLogix 5370 1769-L30ER I need to access these units remotely over a VPN. I've been able to change the subnet & gateway of (2) and (3) so that I can now see them over my VPN but have yet to work out how to do this for (I) and (4). None of the controllers are set for BOOTP but, to be honest, I'm less concerned about an answer for this than I am about other stuff that follows in a while! I also have a valid licensed dongle which allows me to load RSLinx, RsLogix 500 and Studio 5000 software - for some reason, the RSLogix 500 hasn't activated and I only have a day's grace period left but, here again, I hope to find a resolution to that outside of this forum. So, to the nitty-gritty.... I'm a confident, mature developer but I have absolutely no experience with PLCs and their terminology - and I admit I haven't been on any training courses. It will take me long enough to figure out protocol/command formats without the added burden of understanding the PLC programming processes, different pieces of Rockwell applications software and their associated plethora of documentation. In short, my task is to extend our driver to read and write non-atomic data types, i.e. structures and arrays. As a general concept, naturally, I know what a structure and an array are, but not specifically in terms of my test hardware's existing data files. I'm assuming that my easiest approach is to create a couple of simple structures and arrays in the existing test hardware using the Rockwell apps, at which I point I then have an odds-on chance of working out the command packets to put in my driver to read them. I believe that, to read non-atomic data structures and arrays like these, I need to use tags to address the data - if I've understood that correctly. Later on, I could then look at how I put together command packets to write to those structures and arrays, but I want to walk before I run. At present, I have fumbled my way through setting up a driver in RSLinx to access test hardware items (2) and (3). I can even run up a data monitor for both controllers, and can see various atomic data such as integers, booleans, etc. However, I'm guessing RSLinx doesn't let me set up structures and arrays. I assume that is done through either RSLogix500 or Studio 5000 -- but I have absolutely no idea how to do it or what I'm looking for. And the other aspect that's confusing me is that these two pieces of software are limited in the controller models for which I can start a new project. If someone could just give me some idiotproof pointers to step me through this, it would be fantastic. Thanks in anticipation.

  16. Hello folks,   I am a rookie, self-training in PLC programming. I have written an SFC exercise (attached ACD file). I also try to call STL written subroutines and add-on instructions, from within the SFC main program. Calling the created subroutine works fine, but calling the add-on instruction fails from a reason which is above my level. I tried, tried and tried different solutions, with no avail. I am either wrong in writing the add-on (perhaps some missing but missing tag ?), or wrong is calling it. Can someone please give me a hint on what I do wrong ?   Thank you, Radu PS . I use Studio 5000 v24, combined with RSLogix 5000 Emulator.     SFC_trial.ACD

  19. Panasonic FP0 C14RS

Hi All, I am new to the forum and new to programming PLC and like every newbie I have a lot of questions - Brief History of me - I had been a Manufacturing Technician for 20 years and recently got my BS on Electrical Engineering and now working as an Equipment Engineer. The main reason that got me interested in PLC's is my degree,  the field that I would like to get into and a recent problem that arise at work. My experience with PLC is very small in programming, some in TS I/O- However I had been studying by my self to the point that I built a test bench to understand it better and in the future create different project for learning purposes Currently I am putting together a tool Alarm delay program - Basically my exhaust sensors trigger an alarm (input signal turns OFF) before its send  the signal to my tool for abort, I want to create a different Alarm which will cause a different response from my tool and delay the original Alarm by 10 min and then trigger the original Alarm - PLC = Panasonic FP0C14RS  Reasons: Create a different Alarm: The response from my tool to this alarm will allow me to return my material back from the tool and put it in a safe spot. Delay the Alarm: Use a timer to perform this tasks - This the time that approx. it takes the to return the material. Trigger the original Alarm: I need to know which sensor was the problem in order to properly TS- So after my timer is complete - I want to know which sensor created the original Alarm My Current problem: I created the LD program, and while the original alarm stays OFF the program works fine - but since my exhaust sensor are always on - If my original alarm is trigger for  a few seconds, just enough to start my Delay Alarm: I dont have a way to know which sensor trigger after my Delay(Timer)is complete,  I reset my relays in order to be ready for new alarm.   Please provide feedback to my program - I know currently is not the best way or efficient way to do this and there are better ways, but my plan is to get it to work and then later revisions improve the way the program can be written   Thanks in advanced for your feedback and help Exh_delay_inv_rev1.pro

  23. Hi, In conception phase we currently use GXWorks to upload programs to PLC (L-Series). In production mode, for different security reasons we would like to automate this transfer so that the operator does not access directly to the program. Do you know any tool allowing this by using command lines and not GXWorks UI ? (GXWorks does not seem to be "command line" friendly As a POC I  have automated the GXWorks UI in C#  (by simulating menu or buttons clicks) but I don't find it reliable (what if an unexpected popup "pops" ? ). PS : I am a totally noob in this PLC world so maybe I missed stg in the docs ...
  24. recover program from plc-5/15

A machine was bought at auction which included PLC-5/15 module.  It did not come with a backup of the program.  Our maintenance technician said the program would not load and turned the module over to me (IT).  I notice the battery was installed in '92 so am assuming the program is lost.  Is their any internal memory or last ditch effort i can attempt to recover the program from this module?
