  1. Hi Everyone,I have a customer that needs a CQM1H (CPU51) replaced. They purchased the processor new-old-stock from a source they found online. It arrived in the original packaging and had the safety label around the top of the unit, so it seems that it is as advertised and no need to suspect that it would have problems. I purchased secondhand, a power supply to attach to it and program it from the bench instead of in the machine. The customer also provided me with an SD card containing the project file(s) for the machine. I am able to load the project in CX-ONE (running on Win 7) just fine. My computer has a native serial port (COM1) and I built a programming cable to work with the DB9 peripheral port according to a diagram I found online.The processor powers up right away with the ERR/ALM continuously on. No other LEDs came on initially, and after a bit of playing around with communications settings, I finally landed the right protocol and my computer seemed to identify the processor correctly. I compiled the source and attempted a transfer to the PLC. I got some failed message (or maybe messages) at the end of the transfer. It did seem to send all of the binary code, it just ended with an error message that I unfortunately didn't write down or grab a screenshot.Anyway, what I have now is a PLC processor with the ERR/ALM LED on always, I've never seen it in RUN mode, and now after the programming attempt, I'm seeing the COMM LED strobing at about a .5sec frequency (with or without a cable attached to the peripheral port), AND I cannot get CX-Programmer to again acknowledge the processor anymore. I'd like to reset this back to the way it arrived to me, but can't figure out how to make that happen offline. The DIP switches don't seem to cause that effect. I should say also that the DIP switch settings are all OFF except 3 and 7.Any help is much appreciated!Thanks,John

    Hello all.. I have a program for my customer.  There is an alarm page.  They want a solution screen for alarms. For example ; if there is an alarm , they will click a button near the alarm. They will see solutions for that alarms in a pop-up page. Is it possible with GT Designer  3 ? Thanks
  3. Alarm History on GT1275

    I'm using a GT1275 HMI with GTDesigner3 and am trying to add some Alarm Logging capabilities. I've made an alarm page and have it working correctly, but the problem is once the display is full it stops showing current alarms. Is there a way to have it only show the 20 most recent alarms? Make it where the newest alarm deletes the oldest alarm? Or at least make it where I can scroll down to see the latest alarm?   I've attached some screenshots of the current alarm page and settings. I tried the "clear oldest history..." button but I can't set a specified target value. That may not be the right way either so IDK.  Thanks. 
  4. Hi, Is there a way to write an Event Name to a string variable in Sysmac Studio? I'm using a NJ-301. My problem is that I can detect that there is an error and get the Error Code using functions GetECError, GetMCError, GetPLCError, etc, but I want to get the Event Name associated with the code (in a string variable), to display that string on an HMI (not from Omron). Is this possible?

    I'm working with Emerson 90-30 on proficy machine edition and I'm trying to use a string variable to display words on a graphical panel in target 2 but withing the code itself on target one I cant seem to understand how the reference address works? can some one explain how string variables function and how to use them?

As the industry of plc and scada softwares continue to integrate more and more programming languages into their IDE, what is the most common language that should be learned by controls engineers (excluding Ladder Logic)?  I mainly use Python and VB for scripting but I am curious what languages other SCADA and PLC programming environments use. Should I be sticking to a specific language and learning it well or just know a little bit of them all? Let me know your thoughts!!
  7. Good morning Today I have the honor to present you our project, on which we have worked the last months. We have been annoyed for years that when creating software in special machine building, sometimes the same/similar messages are created over and over again and then they are described similarly or the same in the machine documentation. The thought, if the mechanical components are mostly the same/similar, the error description can also be "copied" (at least initially). An Excel table with the error numbers seemed to us here a good beginning, however it would be practical, if with each message text also still the description to the message in a document, including pictures, tables etc., were deposited. This was then the point where we first thought about an online tool. This also solves problems with collaboration and makes it possible to work together. Also additional languages can be added if a machine is to be rolled out to a new market. PLC-Alarm is a young Austrian startup founded by PLC programmers to ease the handling with machine messages and their descriptions. Therefore we tried to solve the following problems besides the creation of an error list: Working together on message lists Hierarchical creation of message lists Inheritance of message texts and message descriptions to lower-level projects Adding additional message lists to make message texts more variable. Adding a description to any message text in any language via Google Docs. (Connection to Microsoft Word-online is in progress) Document template for uniform presentation Combining all message descriptions into one machine document file. Highlighting used messages to avoid having unused message text in the message list. And to shorten the machine document file. Upload a file containing the used message numbers to mark them automatically. Any export options for PLC, SCADA and HMI systems possible. (Currently optimized for TIA Portal only). Suggestions for additional features welcome As mentioned in the last point, currently only exporting for a TIA Portal text list is possible since the first customers are also programming on Siemens.   8. Newbie in the field of Automation here! I have a waste water project that requires operating 6 pumps to empty a sump. The water level in the sump is being monitored by an analog ultrasonic sensor. The analog range is divided into 5 levels; level 1 being the lowest and level 5 being the highest. The way the pumps operate is analogous to the water level, i.e., 5 pumps will run at level 5, 4 pumps will run at level 4, 3 at level 3, 2 at level 2, and only 1 pump will run at level 1. The sixth pump is used to run the pumps sequentially and that's where I need help. Basically, the pumps can not be assigned to a certain water level as this would result in the pumps at the lower level run way more as compared to the pumps assigned to higher levels. The pumps need to alternate so as to keep the running hours of each comparable. Another requirement is that say if pump 1 turns on due to water level rise and then turns off due to water level fall, and again if the water level rises, then the next pump should start instead of pump 1, and so on for the rest of the pumps. Also, if one pump goes on some kind of fault, the 6th pump comes in and runs in its stead until the fault is reset. I'm trying to come up with a ladder program to make all this happen but hoped that I could find some help online. I feel like this is a common project and there should be someone that can give me the proper solution. With thanks, Aafaq.

Hey, (Programming a M224 with Machine Expert Basic) I'd like to get some input from you guys about a logical task: I have 8 contactors controlled by my PLC outputs, they heat a water boiler. throughout my operation, I require a different amount of heaters (I could move between 1-8 heaters in a single operation) I would like to scramble what contactors I put in use every time I start an operation, in order to not constantly use the same heating elements and wear specific ones out. For example, in the first stage of heating I will use contactor #1, next time I start the operation I would like to use contactor #2 and so on.. How would you approach this problem? SBR? Timers? Thanks

  12. Good day,  I retreived the event log from 2x RM's today, I found on the one RM that there has been more than 700 million events. Apart from switchover events, there following event shows up a lot: (C2) Bridge Connection Deleted       Starts/Stops   Byte 1 (0xFF) : Byte 2 (0xFF) : Byte 3 (0xF2) : Byte 4 (0x13) : Byte 5 (0x0) : Byte 6 (0x0) :  Our system: 1756-RM2 1756-L75 1756-CN2R 1756-EN2TR 1756-EN2TR 1756-EN2TR 1756-EN2TR The CN2R's are connected to 12x 1771-ACN15 and 2x 1756-CN2R in remote racks, which is also set up to be the keepers. The EN2TR's are connected to their respective ETAPs/EN2TR's in ring topology.   We have experienced some issues when switching over. Hope someone can tell me what that message means regarding the Bridge Connection.

    I have E-Designer 7.52 Build 344 installed on 3 windows 7 laptops the 2 that the problem is on are Pro 64 and the 1 thats working is Home Premium 64 but I seem to recall having this problem on the the Home one 9 years ago and getting it sorted but cant remember how The problem In Alarms,  Alarms New Alarm Alarm text: When typing cursor stays at left side and can only be moved to the right by the arrow key then jumps to left side after letter is pressed or you can type in reverse Signal:        Typing works normal OK:             Entry is not valid ;May not be blank Copy: Ok: Same result Properties:Ok:Same again Is there anyone who can help me with this as the laptop that works is on its last legs Thanks

Hello Everyone, I am writing one logic and need some help regarding that logic.   CURRENT LOGIC -  -There are two timers TON_1 and TON_2. -TON_1 timer will start as soon as PLC turns on. -After the done bit of TON_1 timer, the TON_2 timer goes on. -After the done bit of TON_2 timer, again the TON_1 timer will start. -This logic cycle will run continuously, both timers will run turn by turn. Code (Codesys/Schneider Eco Structure Machine Expert)- PROGRAM POU_1 VAR      TON_1: TON;     TON_2: TON; END_VAR TON_1(IN:=(NOT(TON_2.Q)) , PT:= T#100S); TON_2(IN:=(TON_1.Q) AND (NOT(TON_2.Q)) , PT:= T#20S);   Actual Requirement -  -There is a BOOL tag. -If the BOOL tag gets high during the TON_1 running, the logic should move to the TON_2 immediately. -If the BOOL tag does not get high during the TON_1 running, the logic should move to the TON_2 after completion of TON_1. -after the completion of TON_2, again restart TON_1. -Logic Runs continuously in a cyclic mode.   Give me your valuable idea to fulfill the logic requirement.
  15. Hi, guys.I am struggling to develop a solution for a costumer in a Historical Alarm Viewer screen, I am new to Cimplicity and to database supervisory interface. Among other things, the customer is asking to:- Change the "A"; "R"; "G"; "N" notations under "log_action" column to somenthing more intuitive for the users (operation). Please have a look at the image "image.jpg";-Change the point manager process "MASTER_PTMR0_RP" log under "logged_by" column to the user that is currently logged in. Specificaly saying, when I send a command (changing a setpoint or issue a reset command, for example), although it is the user acting, the historical alarm viewer logs the action as "MASTER_PTMR_RP". I Imagine that is because this process is reponsable for exchange point data to/from the IHM points database, but it is still essential to the system administrator to know which user sent that reset command or changed the variable setpoint.The log inputs at the image "image.jpg" has boolean and integer commands (".CXX" sufix);-Log into the historical alarm viewer if the user logs out and what user logged in.It is valid to mention that I am using the ALARM_LOG table (apparently it is the only table working with the application, DATA_LOG, EM_LOG and the others simply do not work, they don't show any column at all, honestly I don't know why).I tried to use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio to edit the table information, but, somehow, it seems to be blocked to edition.I imagine they are some specific configurations, but I have no idea on how to acomplish them. Maybe if I could use other tables would fulfill the requirements, but , like I said, they are not working (right now I am trying to re-configure the Database Logger from the beggingin to see if it works with other tables).If you could give me some inisights on how to change these settings I would be very grateful. I will be happy to give more information if needed.Thanks in advance.

  17. Has anyone found a way to put the UserAlarmViewer messages into a Label? I use 3 different alarm levels and would like to have a single line alarm banner. In NJ, I use an Array of Bool for triggers. In Siemens, I made a message banner that cycles through each message every 3 seconds from a text file and displays the string in a label. Logic is much different in Omron so rewriting is not possible, nor does Omron use VBA.
  18. Hi all, I am using alarms to generate reports through sql . But sometimes my alarms are getting missed and due to that my reports are not getting proper expected output. My alarm bit is almost high for 3 to 6 seconds , however i have observed that its getting missed . I dont know why . In below image after @22.41.03 the next snap should have been captured around @22.41.33 Instead of that it captured @22.42.03 have anyone faced issue with alarm missing issue? Any suggestions would be very helpful.   Thank you.

    Hey i want to know that in mitsubishi A2SH-S1 CPU how can i determine that battery voltage is what and if battery voltage is low then i want to on an output so that i can change the battery with the new one so that my program does not gets erased. 
  20. So I have a plc program where most of the outputs are based on a counter that goes from 0 to 1000. The counter speed is adjustable and is generally set to run through a full cycle (count from 0 to 1000) anywhere between 0.5 to 2 seconds. The problem is, when I try to energize an output by using an EQU instruction, it will almost always skip the count because the scan time is not fast enough. I've been using a LIM instruction which has been working, but its not quite as accurate as it needs to be. I switched the counter logic to be continuous to try to make it faster which made it almost perfectly accurate... But only in the continuous task; it made the other periodic task significantly less accurate. I was curious if any of you had any tips on how to remedy this or just general help. I am still relatively new to PLCs and ladder logic so any advice would be awesome, Thanks in advance! Edit: The purpose of the counter is to cycle through from 0 to 1000 over and over again. My outputs actuate during a certain interval within this cycle (For example I would say actuate from 300 to 800 and it would stop and end once it hit those values via an EQU or LIM instruction). I wrote the logic as follows: First I calculate how many cycles per minute I want to perform, using that value I calculate how many times I want to increment my counter per millisecond. Then a timer is given a preset of the total cycle time. While that timer is running I continuously multiply the timer's accumulated value by the "cycle count per millisecond" that I calculated earlier; the resulting value is the current count that all my outputs are based on... Hopefully that makes sense, I know it's not the best but I could not figure out a better way of doing it and I know rounding is certainly making the accuracy worse. My hardware is: Allen Bradely PLC (5069 l306erms2), 5069-ob16, 5069-ib16, and a Kinetix 5500s2 Driver for my motor(s)

  22. Hello Sirs! I have a problem with PF527. I get alarms 'control sync alarm' and 'module sync alarm' occasionally. I suppose this meaning that PLC is missing some data from the PF527 device. How to confirm this or what should I do with the problem? Any ideas? Motion group update period is 8ms. Also this device is the last device in the ethernet line. I am thinking to pull the cable directly to the switch near PLC. I am not sure does it help?

  24. We have been working with PLCs for long time. We used to develop PLC logic, partly test it on an emulator and test the rest on the partly energised equipment. From time to time working with computer software development (C# and JavaScript) I was always looking for something similar to unit testing in the PLC world. As I couldn't find anything at that time I've started developing own automated testing tool. Now we use this tool, which basically simulates PLC inputs in defined actions and checks expected behaviour of internal tags or/and PLC outputs. If it behaved the way we expected, it's PASS, otherwise it's FAIL. We break complex logic into small parts and create unit tests for it. By creating more of these unit tests we can test PLC logic of any complexity. The software called PLC Logic Prover and it's free at https://www.controlx.io Recently, I've been told that there is no point to develop anything new if there are already great tools on the market. Honestly, I didn't do proper research earlier, so I'm here asking the experts. What do you use to test PLC logic? What automated testing tools do you use?
