  1. Which laptop is most commonly used by PLC Service Engineers? Specs please :)
  2. Hi All, I am a new user to this Forum and definitely a newbie PLC user, so I'm not sure if this is a simple mistake. I am currently trying to correct the logic (of a sensor) on a PLC program to get a manufacturing machine back up and running. This is an issue that I have fixed via PLC several times previously, but for some reason I am having issues fixing it this time. The issue that I am having is that when I try to dig into the Logic of the PLC program (Programming > POUs > Programs > Logic > ...), nothing shows up where there is typically a PLC command ladder. I get the error "No instruction in rung" next to all of the PLC program modules. I am connecting to a Omron NX1P2 CPU via laptop & Ethernet cord. To give you background on my troubleshooting process, I have verified that the I am connected to the PLC controller, by using the Windows Run program to ping the IP address of the controller. After verifying connection, I attempted to connect to the controller using SYSMAC studio. At this step, a troubleshooting window appeared with the issue "Minor fault" "Tag Data Link Connection Timeout". When I look at the Controller Status at the bottom right corner of SYSMAC, it says that I am online and connected to the correct IP address (green circle). Under that, ERR/ALM has a red circle next to RUN Mode. Ignoring the troubleshooting window, I can click Synchronization and "Transfer from Controller". A dialog box pops up and reads "...Controller does not have the POU program source...". Pressing yes to ignore this, the transfer completes. This is where I encounter the issue of having nothing show up within the path of Programming > POUs > Programs > Logic > ... . I have a feeling that this is a connectivity or settings issue, but I am not sure. I have checked my ethernet splitter (D-Link DES-105) and everything seems to be connected and working. If anyone has some insight into this issue I would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you in advance! Best cszikszai
  3. Siemens Field PG M3 - PLC Programming Rugged Laptop for Sale   Condition is Used   This is a Siemens Field PG for PLC Programming.   Purchased several years ago as part of an auction lot and has sat in my workshop since, I don't do much Siemens so this is up for sale - This is what I know about it :-   The machine has Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit installed (Machine has Windows 7 Ultimate on the base but been upgraded at some point) 8GB ram installed It has a windows XP VM installed which runs the Siemens Programming software (Virtual Box) There is a folder on the desktop containing the original installation files, so would be easy to return back to the host machine if required. All software appears to be licensed (see pics)    Has Step 7 and Step 5 installed   Negatives - Missing the back flap & Battery not being recognised thus not taking on charge (I think this is a just BIOS update needed but not looked into it too much)   In very good overall condition, a few light marks but that's about it, still looks very good.   Comes with the original branded rucksack    This was a really expensive bit of kit in its day and still stands up as an excellent PLC programming machine   Open to sensible offers - I am located in the UK so worldwide postage will have to be calculated seperately   I have powered it up and it works well with no issues found, the PLC software all seems to work and appears fully licensed but as I am not the original owner and don't know the provenance of the machine or licenses this machine is sold with no returns or warranty provided.
  4. I'm making this thread, continuing from my previous one (Newbie Screwed Up) where I received tremendous help from those on this forum.    I now have the AB 5/04 working, but the Panel Mate 1700 doesn't seem to communicate with the 504.  The HMI connected to this brick is a Cutler Hammer Panel Mate Pro 1700.  It lights up,  the touch-screen buttons somewhat react to touching (might take a few strokes to react), but the functions do not react with the 5/04.  I called the equipment manufacturer, and they basically said it is all obsolete equipment, no longer supported, etc. and we are SOL. But, for a mere $100K, we can send the unit back, and they'll install all "modern" control units !! Not an option.   I get it that the unit is 10+ years old, but has very low cycle times on it.  (maybe 400 hrs)   It's my understanding that the  HMIs are just that....a means of the operators telling the PLC what you want it to do. So, my question .... is there an off the shelf software package that would emulate the Panel Mate 1700?  All I need to "control"  is to advance or retard two sets of heat seal rollers (via PacSci stepper motors), actuate two separate hole punch solenoids, and an air solenoid for a knife....it's basically a packaging machine.  I do have a program called PMConfig , but I don't see any communications buttons or icons in that software, just screen shots of what shows up on the HMI, icon selection, change fonts / colors, etc.  So, I'm looking for a resolution to make new(er) HMI (or even just a cheap a$$ laptop)  with affordable software, and easy interface to communicate with the now functioning 5/04.  Thanks for the input.
  5. Using a null modem cable, I am unable to connect to SLC5/05 PLC via the DF1 port. I can connect via Ethernet, but not the 9-pin DF1 port on the front of the processor. After a few attempts(many), I noticed that CH0 was set up as DH485, so I changed it to DF1 Full Duplex thinking that would do the trick, but it did not work. Please advise. Thanks.
  6. I have a 1784-pcmk card that I currently use to connect to PLC5 DH+ port; however, my laptop is being replaced with one that does NOT have a pcmcia slot. question-1: can I utilize a usb-to-pcmcia adapter to connect to a PLC5 DH+ port through a VM drive on my laptop? question-2: is there a replacement to the 1784-pcmk card that connects to my USB port and can be accessed through my VM drive? question-3: is there any other recommended method to connect to the PLC5 DH+ port??? Thanks .
