  1. Using a AD041 and DA041

    Hi, I'm using a CJ2M CPU 33, and also a CJ1m Ad-041-V1 Analog Input and DA-041 Analog Output card.  I am using the Analog input to measure my current in my one heating application and  Ihave that reading and scaled correctly, but now  I want to use my Analog output to replace the Rheostat  we have in the system. I'm having some issues setting the range and getting voltage to vary. I also am a little new to Analog Outputs and don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have attached my program here.   3. OD212 Card Outputs not powered

    Hello! I'm running into a problem with a malfunctioning OD212 output card on my PLC.  I figure the problem has something to do with my wiring, because I've put 2 different cards in with the same results. The card is unable to switch any of the relays I have as outputs although the indicator lights on it are functioning as expected. The setup it is in is: A PA202 power supply, followed by a CJ1M CPU13 CPU, 2 ID211 input cards, and 3 OD212 output cards. The bad card is the second OD212. All of the other cards work fine, it's just this one that's been having problems.  8 of the terminals on the bad card are hooked up to relays that each draw 0.02A and two more are attached to relays that draw 0.05A. So in total that's 0.26A if all the outputs are on at the same time (which they never will be.) I saw someone was having a similar problem to me on the forum, which was solved by switching out the PA202 supply, but that didn't work in my case. I don't think the problem lies with the PLC or the card's placement in the rack because I switched the card's position with the one next to it (output card 2 switched with output card 3) and tested that card (output card 3 in output card 2's place) without hooking it up to the original wiring and it worked just fine. However, I was still getting the same issue with the bad card even though it was in a different position, leading me to believe that I fried it somehow. Some other quirks of the bad card are that its outputs do not turn on and off with the indicator lights like how the other OD212s do. Below is a link to a video that shows this.   4. Hi there, is somebody experience whereby the output of the 1769-OF4Ci is not responding on the value entered?.  Setting: 4-20mA Res: 0- 32767 - PID set whatever value I key in the output current remained.  please help. Ganie
  5. I am new to Automation Direct software and how the programs are written. Can anyone explain how they handle the analog outputs? My processor does not support the IBox that makes life easier, so I am having to do it the old hard way. I understand most of the logic of how its done for sending data to one channel but I don't understand how the channel selecting works. Can someone give me a programming example or explain how that works? I am looking at the online manual that Automation Direct provides for you for the analog module but I am having a difficult time trying to wrap my brain around how they do their analog stuff ><
  6. Hello forum! I'm using AB Compactlogix 1769 L35E CPU energized by 1769-PA2 power supply which is also supplying to 1769-SDN DeviceNet scanner, both via backplane. Trying to build a simply DN network connecting the scanner to a Balluff BNI DNT-104-000-Z004, which is a 16 PNP digital input block, since is only input module I rely that no extra power supply will be required. The problem is that when connecting both scanner and input block via my DN thick cable (Balluff BCC07YY), the input module does not energize. In fact I got no voltage reading when measuring voltage between scanner V+ and V- terminals. I measured voltage at 1769-PA2 power supply DC output (which is not in use) and its providing 24VDC, also scanner is powered on so I do not think the problem could be power supply nor backplane. Scanner display shows 92 number, scanner manual says that 92 error is "no devicenet power" and has the following description: No network power detected on DeviceNet port. Provide network power. Make sure the module drop cable is providing the proper power to the DeviceNet port. Which I do not get, is not the power supply from 1769-PA2 via backplane enough?  Is not the scanner supposed to provide voltage to the network? I've no grounding connection connected to PE yet (just between devices GND terminals)... is that a problem for testing this small network? It will be done soon but now I'm waiting for cable material. Actually I'm online using Studio5000 and have 1769-SDN DeviceNet scanner device declared at the project, there is no warning nor major fault displayed from the software. Thanks for reading.
  7. Hello I have a scenario that's been bugging me for some time now. The scenario consists of a Micrologix 1400 that I need to control it's output from modbus/tcp. In detail what I really need is to be able to manipulate the O0:0 through modbus/tcp. The PLC would be the master and I would be the slave that triggers the connection to the master. I'm using a Modbus-Client on my PC and that should be the slave. Any idea as to how I can manage that? Currently I can send data to the master but everything is "stored" on B10 and I have no idea how I could write directly on O0. Thanks a bunch guys. PS: I'm borderline noob.

    Hello everyone,   I'm a student who recently started programming, and I could really use some help.  I have a CPU-31 CJ2M OMRON PLC and a ADO41-v1 analogic card. I need help programming an analogic scale with a bipolar signal -10V to +10V to then control a drive, which will then control the motor.   9. I need to run 4 exactly same devices with 4 different controllers. The logic for them would be exactly the same but the IPs and controller names would be different. Is there a way to do it using 1 project file? Basically whenever download is done the logic would be downloaded but the controller name/IP would be left unchanged. They will be connected to the same network so the IPs must be different. I am using 1769-L32E for these and all racks are set up exactly the same. Any ideas?
  10. Gang, Hooking up an Automation Direct P2-32TD2P to an AC/DC LED and noticed the LED is always "on" a little bit. When the output is on, the LED is certainly on, but when the output is off the LED is still on by a fractional amount, not much but it's plainly noticeable the room lights are off. The CPU can be in Stop, no matter, power just has to be on. I think this has to do with the card's load disconnected error functionality. +24V and some fraction of amps is always present at the output whether the output is on or off. I talked with automation people at work who noted there is an Allen Bradley system that does the same thing, it caused them a problem, they had to use a relay or etc to make an off output actually be off. Has anyone dealt with this? I'm new to the Productivity software, but there doesn't seem to be a way to just turn it off in the IDE. It seems ridiculous to have to wire up transistors or relays just to have off be off. Thanks for any ideas.

  12. I want to unify my programs and select only configuration words (the same program for many applications) . My problem is with the assigned outputs by the high-speed pulse output like PLS2, ACC, ORG ... I thing that the instructions JMP/JME may allows to use these outputs as normal outputs when HSPO functions is not required. Is it right ?

Good afternoon Mr.PLC forum members.   We recently had a fuse blow on the wiring between a 1756-OF6CI analog out card and a control valve (which we have no feedback for - only the 0-100% output). Took a little longer to troubleshoot since we have no feedback and we also don't monitor individual channel status of the card. For input cards (1756-IF8H or IF16H), it's easy enough to use the under-range/over-range or broken wire signal to troubleshoot a blown fuse or bad connection, and activate an alarm. I have been told by our local consultant-technician that there is an equivalent monitoring bit for output cards. Reading the instruction manual for the 1756-I/O cards, the fault channel bits do not seem to have this type of function for the 1756-OF6CI. The fault bits only seem to look at the requested output values, and at the connection between card and PLC itself as far as I can tell.  Am I missing something?   thanks for your help

I hate to start a new topic on such an old processor but I forced to keep this thing working until I can upgrade it.  We are having funny issues with outputs.  At first they were on a PLC5/60.  We suspected a bad processor so we changed to a PLC5/40 we had in our tool crib and the problem didn't go away.  Some of our outputs in the ladder are being evaluated to true but not turning on.  We can force the output on and it will come on and when we remove the force it will turn back off.  I've never seen this problem before on any processor.  All the logic leading up to the output is true but the output is not turning on and is there not green. I've already checked all the obvious causes.  The instruction is an OTE.  The output is not duplicated somewhere else in the logic that is turning it off.  The ladder file is being scanned.  I replaced the output with a B3 bit and on the next line had the B3 bit turn on the ouput.  The B3 output bit turned on but the output did not.  This output is on a remote I/O rack and other outputs on that rack are working. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I managed to start/stop/reference drive using Logic Command/Status I/O but didn't manage to get output current using datalinks mechanism. The main problem is that trying to modify C161-C164 (Opt Data In 1-4) parameters drive does not accept the entered values and it turns back to value "0". First, I disabled I/O connection with the controller Disconnecting the drive from the network. On the other hand, drives allow me to change parameters C165-C168 (Opt Data Out 1-4) but these are out paramenetrs (from the controller's point of view).   22. First post. We recently upgraded our machine from an SLC to compactlogix. In the SLC 5/05 we used analog 1746-ni8 cards for pressure and position sensors. When we moved over to the compactlogix 1769 l36erm with 1769-if16c cards we seen issues where the analog values had very little definition accuracy. This can be resolved by changing the filters but then the response time of the card is to slow and we miss data. All of the relevant code from these sensors are in their own task and ive tried periodic, event and continous tasks but none of this helps. The strange thing is with the SLC we never seen these issues. Any ideas how i can improve the reponse time when the filters are set low?

Hello, I hope you are all having a great Wednesday.  So I was wondering if this is possible, and if so, how to do it.  What I'm trying to do is get a real time speed of my hydraulic cylinder using a transducer, a 1769-HSC high speed counter module, and a 1769-L36ERM processor.  Kind of like a speedometer in my car.  I would like the number in inches/ second.   We use a hydraulic proportional valve to control a cylinder that we use to pump molten lead into our die cast machines.  Back in the day they used to use limit switched that rest on a tail rod attached to the cylinder shaft to get an approximate stroke length.  It was very crude, but it worked for what it was.  I'll explain  a little more, in case I'm not explaining it very clearly.   So on most of our machines the maximum stroke length of a normal shot is about 11".  We have different "stages" to the shot.  Stage one is typically from 0" (when the shot is all the way returned) until about 1.5", at 1.5" the valve stops and there is a shot delay for 1 second (vacuum draws some lead into the goose neck and into the beginning of the mold), after the delay second stage starts, second stage is from 1.5" to 4", third stage is from 4" to 8" and fourth stage is from 8" to 11.5" or until the shot timer finishes timing, and then another valve switches, and the shot starts it's return.  We have the different stages because we typically shoot the cylinder slower at first, and then delay and then almost maximum velocity.  We control the velocity with an analog output to a solenoid on a hydraulic valve.  For example, for the first stage we may open it up 20%, then 0% during the delay and then 85% during second, third and fourth.  Sometimes we play around with different shot delay times, different shot velocities, sometimes 3rd may be faster than 4th, ect, to get the best die casted parts.   Anyways, so in the past they would use limit switches.  One was a button head style that when the shot cylinder shaft was all the way returned, it made the switch, and we knew the shot was fully returned.  One was set at 1.5", 4", 8" etc.  They all, except for the shot return switch, were roller style limit switches.  They were all made, and once the shot reached that stroke length, they would come off the rod and we would know we were in that next stage.  So it was very crude.  If you wanted to adjust the stages you would have to climb up on top of the very hot molten lead pot, mark where the limit switch currently was (in case you needed to put it back) loosen the bracket, try to make a measurement and guess how far you moved it.  It was crude to say the least.  Some of our older style machines that don't need much tweaking still use the limit switch style positioning system.   Most of our new machines all use a VisiTrak transducer.  The shot cylinder rod that is attached to the cylinder shaft is actually threaded and then has a very thing layer of chrome plating.  The transducer sits against the shaft and counts the threads.  It transfers those counts to a Very High Speed Counter module in our PLC I/O rack.  We have a CompactLogix L36ERM processor and we use a 1769-HSC as the VHS Counter.  Then we just do some math in the PLC program and we are able to get shot stroke in inches.  We set different compare instructions, for example when: Shot_Stroke is greater than or equal to 0 AND Shot_Stroke is less than or equal to 1.5 then 1st_Stage_Bit is active.  We set up different numbers for all the different stages and still use the button head limit switch as a second method to confirm that the stroke is fully returned.   The counter is very fast.  We are able to know what the shaft stroke is at any given point.  We currently do some math using the distance of each stage and using timers to calculate inches per second of each stage.  That way we can have a nice Speed number in inches/second that we can use to make different adjustments to the shot.  Typically the first stage is about 7"/second second is: 24"/second third is: 42"/second and fourth is 2"/second.  But I want a real-time, current speed, not just the speed that it traveled through each of the stages.     Ok, after all of that explaining, I'm finally getting to my question.  How would I logically write a set of instructions that could give me current speed in inches per second.  Like i said, I am able to calculate the speed of each stage, after the shot has completed the stage, I just divide the distance of the stage (in inches) by the time it took to travel through that stage (in seconds).  But I would like to have a real time speed, kind of like a speedometer on a car.  Is this possible?  I know that the scan time on this processor is very fast and the high speed counter module counts very fast as well.  How do I do the math to get a real time speed in inches/ second?   Sorry for the very long post.  I just thought i would give you a background on what we are doing/ would like to do.     Thank you very much.
  24. Hello, I am trying to get a Fanuc R-30iB controller added into my RSLogix program. The PLC is a CompactLogix 1769-L30ER When I search for new modules to add I see a pre setup Fanuc Robot Ethernet module, but I can't get that to work. I tried following Fanuc's instructions and setting it up as a generic ethernet module, but I couldn't get that to work either, it just says i/o not responding for that module. I am definitely able to ping the Fanuc controller, so I believe I am seeing it. When I add the controller in RSLinx, it's there, but there is no icon next to it's name. I'm guessing because its a fairly new controller, and it came out after the version of RSLinx that I'm using? Don't I need to download the EDS file for the new controller so that Linx can recognize it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
