  2. Is it possible to use FX3U-485ADP-MB as a serial port to send and receive user defined string/data to and from a computer? I have a FX3U-32M PLC and two FX3U-485ADP-MB adapters. I have been using PLC with one adapter as Modbus Master. Now i want to use both adapters, where one will be Modbus Master as usual and the other I want to use to send and receive data to and from computer terminal (Example - Realterm). I have a third party 232/485 converter which works really well. Lets me just describe my requirement straight forward. I want to display process parameters on a windows computer based user interface (UI) and also set some variables in PLC from the same UI. The UI has access to serial ports of computer.
  3. Hello all - Wanted to check in and get some ideas on how everyone else out there stays organized with the various connectors, cables, etc. Currently I have been using a decent sized laptop backpack (keeping my laptop in there, spare battery and charger) along with various cables, connectors, external drive, CDs, screwdriver sets, wire crimps/strippers, etc. Seems though as I've been getting into different projects, different PLCs and such that the 'inventory' has been growing. Just wanted to hear others thoughts. Also, if you could maybe throw out your NEED TO CARRY items I'd be interested in what everyone else has to say. Sorry if this has been posted before or somewhere else. Thanks,  Kyle

  6. Hello everyone!  I am having some issues with the internal wiring/wiring of the 1756-OF8 analog output card in my Controllogix L55 controller. I have just recently started using  Allen bradley products, so please bear with me. If my memory serves me correctly, in my past experiences with other plc vendors I thought I was required to provide 24vdc+ from the power supply, which is common to all the channels used for driving the analog out(4-20ma) to the field device being controlled. But I can find any documentation from Allen Bradley that supports this. Can anyone shed some light on how to connect the power supply to the OF-8 card.   Thank you!! Shane
  7. I am new to Automation Direct software and how the programs are written. Can anyone explain how they handle the analog outputs? My processor does not support the IBox that makes life easier, so I am having to do it the old hard way. I understand most of the logic of how its done for sending data to one channel but I don't understand how the channel selecting works. Can someone give me a programming example or explain how that works? I am looking at the online manual that Automation Direct provides for you for the analog module but I am having a difficult time trying to wrap my brain around how they do their analog stuff ><

  10. Hello I have a scenario that's been bugging me for some time now. The scenario consists of a Micrologix 1400 that I need to control it's output from modbus/tcp. In detail what I really need is to be able to manipulate the O0:0 through modbus/tcp. The PLC would be the master and I would be the slave that triggers the connection to the master. I'm using a Modbus-Client on my PC and that should be the slave. Any idea as to how I can manage that? Currently I can send data to the master but everything is "stored" on B10 and I have no idea how I could write directly on O0. Thanks a bunch guys. PS: I'm borderline noob.
  11. PC send data to PLC

Hello, i'm newbie for plc. i want to ask about PC/computer send data to PLC CP1E with serial communication (RS232). my wiring cable is: PC                         PLC 2                             2 3                             3 5                             9 4&6    7&8                               4&5 and if i send data from PC to PLC, my indicator in COMM is blinking. i think the cable have no problem. but if i send data from PC to PLC, the memory is not same as what i send and whatever i send data, the memory didn't change. i will attach my ladder diagram. what should i do?    New folder.rar

  13. Hello,  I am migrating a PLC-5 to Control Logix.   Due to location etc, we need to keep the existing 845D-SHHZ25AGCW4 Encoders.  (256 counts, single turn 24vdc NPN open Collector.) I tried to use a 1756-Ib16IF, but I toasted my spare encoder.  (Have to get another one). My question is has anyone ever done this since the 1771-DL is not made in CLX form factor.   Also, what Module did you use if you did try this and if you have a wiring diagram,  would be great!  (I cannot afford another fried encoder) Thanks! Dan

  15. Hello every one. I have three FX3U plc needed to be communicate over a wireless network. I'm using serial adapter FX3U-485ADP. I got E-byte data trans reciver E-30 for wireless communication. Now need help to setup the whole thing. Previously the PLC's serial connectors were connected through a flexible bus but when the platforms are running fast there is interruption in the  communication. So we want those PLC's to be connected over wifi.  Thanks in Advance
  16. DeviceNet

I have enjoyed reading the posts on this site for some time now, and I am hoping that someone on here would be able to help me out with a problem. We have a small DeviceNet network consisting of a 1756-DNB (node00), two Wago scanners (nodes 03, and 04) and two identical MTS position transducers (nodes 02, and 05). The DNB card is in a rack along with a ControlLogix L71 controller. We have been experiencing random device net error alarms lately where a node would stop communicating and we would power down the system and reboot. The errors would then go away. The other day I decided to use the Networx for DeviceNet to find out what was going on when one of these errors popped up. I found that the device on node 05 was not present on the network. Since we had a spare identical sensor I decided I would address the sensor as node 05 and configure it using a spare DNB card and chassis we have. All went well until I installed the spare sensor into the system. At that point we had alarms pertaining to most of the device net devices. Scanning the network with the Networks software showed no device problems, all were present and communicating, but I could not get the alarms to reset. We tried rebooting the network, the sensor, and even the entire system with no luck. It wasn’t until I reinstalled the old sensor that we were able to get the alarms to clear. Since I have rambled on long enough I won’t bore you with the rest of the trip down this rabbit hole I went down, but what did I do wrong when trying to change this sensor? Is there a specific sequence of events that need to take place when replacing one, even if the sensors are identical?  I am stumped, and we still have the potential of one of these sensors failing without having a clear idea about how to go about changing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  17. Here is a link to a thread on a recent post showing how to communicate serially to an Omron PLC using VB.Net. This uses the Omron Host Link serial protocols. (C-Mode Commands) It will read 10 DM registers and display them on the form.   http://accautomation.ca/implementing-the-omron-host-link-protocol-vb-net/ Here is the source program that can be downloaded. 18. PC-PLC CP1E - USB-to-SERIAL cable

Hi,   I have a self-bought usb-serial cable converter for CP1E. Currently can't connect to my PLC using PC. CX-One says "Failed to the PLC". I am supposedly to use "SYSMAC WAY" as my Network Type in PLC settings?   EDIT: The CPU type is N30   I've checked the following settings: 1) COM number is correct ( as checked from windows Device Manager side) 2) Cable driver is installed, there is no "unknown" driver in my windows Device Manager 3) My RS232C LED in PLC is not lighted up.   Any other suggestions to check settings ive missed out would help, other than buying a new cable for the moment.   Regards, Summerstone
  19. Hi, I have some trouble with a CJ2M-CPU33. My client did a backup to memory card earlier today, and after this we did some changes through remote link. Now the client wanted to restore the previous backup to the PLC and has done so, but the system would not function correctly. After going online on the PLC it seems like the PLC is stuck in "Stop/Programming Mode". When trying to change to "Monitor" or "Run" mode a dialog comes up containing the following message: "Failed to change the operating mode. The operating mode may be still changing in the PLC."  - All the dip switches are set to off after restoring backup - The PLC has been rebooted  - I have downloaded the application again through CX-programmer  - Verified that the PLC is set to start up in "Monitor mode" But nothing helps. The same message comes up when trying to change the operating mode.  Hoping anyone can help to resolve this issue as it is very critical for us and the client. In advance, thanks for any tips or help received. Best regards Stian

  21. Hi guys, I am setting up my test rig, to learn more about modbus communication.  My test units are CJ2M-CPU31,  SCU42 and 2 units MX2 inverters.   I have already downloaded manuals W494 and W336, and I am searching for the type of RS-485 cable to be used.   What type of comm. cable are you using, in setting up your modbus connection? Could you please share your preferred type of cable. Thank you. Cheers. Leo
  22. NX-105 Received Data

Hello,  PLC: NX1P  Comm module: NX-CIF105   I am running a serial (RS485) network to control several motors. As a trigger for to read the serial port I am using the ( Ch1 Receive Data Exist) bit, which is an internal bit that's ideally should be energized when there's data in the Receive buffer. However, this bit isn't reliable at all. I am reaching out today to figure out if there's another way to trigger the receive command ( preferably without a delay)    thank you all  Cheers!
  23. I’m a software engineer who works with our PLC team, so please bear with me!    We log data from the PLC into our ERP application.  The PLC team provides an L5X file which my application parses for tag names, we then choose individual tags to poll within our user interface.  The application automatically generates the Eweb XML view for the chosen tags, the point here is that it doesn’t require any PLC programming.   This works great for polled data like temperatures read every 5 minutes via Eweb, but it doesn’t work for event-driven data like alarms or detecting state change for a tag. I’m looking for a way for my application to register (subscribe) as a listener for an event without requiring PLC programming for each additional event we want to observe. Upon state change the PLC or middleware just needs to send some type of outbound message, for example, post via http (rest), connect to a socket server or send a message via MQTT within a couple of seconds... We have 8 Eweb cards, all 1756 series controllers at multiple locations and we currently poll them from a central server, so the hardware overhead is minimal.  Is there some functionalized code/ladder logic that could act as a standard event listener within the PLC controller?  For instance, could my application write tags I’d like to monitor to a string array via eweb write, then have some standard PLC code iterate through the array looking for changes in the underlying tags?  Since we’ve got polling working so well, we’d like to avoid a separate device / local middleware server just for events, but perhaps its required? All recommendations welcome as I don’t think I have a grasp of what’s possible or practical!
  24. ANALOGIC BIPOLAR OUTPUT - HELP
