  1. Regarding Allen Bradley 1746 I/O most cards come with a removable terminal block (Example P/N 1746-RT25R). What I am looking for is the socket portion that is soldered to the circuit board.  
  2. Hi, I have new RTD module the same specification as the old one however looking to the front face of the RTD a difference can be seen: The old module is GREEN The new module is RED   Anyone can tell me what this means?
  3. Hello, My apologies in advance if this is in the wrong place. I am working on a press that is using a 1746-INT4 to look at the position of the ram.  The press is using an LDT as the sensor reading back to the INT4. It obviously works. The press runs everyday.  I'm wondering if there would be a reason to use this instead of just a voltage or current analog card?   Thank you in advance for the replies.

Looking for a little help.  Replaced a 1746-NO8V analog card that hadn't been working for years and the new card is giving a Configuration Error (Module LED flashes twice, all 8 outputs are flashing 12 times).  I have 2 other of the same cards in the same rack that have been working for a very long time and still working that seem to be configured the same way.  Is there any way to know what is wrong with my configuration.  or maybe my new card is just bad???  I have not yet swapped one of my working cards with the new card, have considered but really think I'm missing something.
  5. Is it common for vendors to list the wrong specs for products? I bought a 1746 IV16 on eBay dirt cheap because it was listed as being a digital sourcing input module. When I go to Rockwellautomation.com , it agrees with this. I've only checked two other vendors, and they both have contrary info listed. PLCProducts.com says it receives analog via current or voltage, and qualitrol.com says it's a digital sinking module. Oh, and the text I'm teaching this from by Rehg and Sartori have it listed in a table of "discrete i/o modules" and call it a sinking module. Im assuming that qualitrol, eBay, Rockwell, and the text have it right that it receives digital and not analog inputs. But the text and qualitrol may be wrong in their labeling it a sinking one and not a sourcing one as Rockwell and eBay (not usually my most trusted source) have it listed.  In the end, it was $8 and I don't care if it isn't what I thought it was, but in your experience, do you find such wild inconsistencies in specs? Thanks!
  6. I need help in identifying the fault with a 1746-NR4 RTD / resistance module. The hardware is a SLC500 1746-NR4 module inserted into slot 3 of a 10 way rack, the processer is a SLC500 5/04   I have been using the RTD module to sample the temperature of a beer-brewing kettle and a fermentation enclosure, tone of the RTD’s was used to control the cooler, the second RTD was scaled through logic and controlled a temperature element through PID logic, this has been running fine for some time. Recently I returned from work and found that the CPU had faulted, the error was on slot 3 (RTD module), unfortunately I didn’t write down the error code, but I’m sure it was xx61, I know now I should have paid more attention to this code. When I cleared the error the processer ran perfectly with no new errors, what wasn’t right was that the heater in the fermentation enclosure was switched on due to low internal temp, when I checked the temperature readings of the RTD against a fixed gauge, the RTD’s value read 10 Deg C and the gauge read 20 Deg C.   I have scaled the RTD value directly, example I:3.0 on the first line of  SCP block and I can see the temp values on this line, I believe this to be an accurate reading. I have entered the correct configuration data in the channel configuration word, i.e. the correct bit settings, I have also tried to change these, example the data format values, the RTD input type, etc.   Convinced that the module was damaged I replaced it with a spare that I had and inserted that, this has now become corrupted or damaged too, and on this one I have lost 3 channels? Example; When an RTD element is connected to the module on channel 2, 3 or 4 the green light blinks, but when viewed in RSLogix the channels indicates that there is a device connected? When testing the range of the RTD in an ice bath the zero went to -4 Deg and in boiling water only reached 66 Deg c?   I have tested both of these modules on a different PLC rack, by swapping them out with a RTD module that I know is working ok. The same fault appears with the RTD modules in either rack and with two different CPU’s. I would like to be able to confirm that the rack or pane or rack isn’t faulty. At present there is only a D/O and D/I card in the rack.   Could this is a case that the modules require re-calibration? And is this an easy fix, can these modules be reset to the factory original spec? Do they require the firmware to be updated?   I would be grateful for any assistance that could be given as I am at a loss and I think I have exhausted all avenues

I have a 1746 HSCE2 card installed and working in a SLC 5/05 chassis.  However, the SLC is running at a scan rate of 33ms, and that is hindering the accuracy of my machine.  Here's what I'm doing: each time a prox is seen by a digital I/O card, the PLC takes the current encoder counts from the 1746 HSCE2 card, subtracts the previous encoder counts (last time the prox was seen), and stores the difference in a register.  Basically, I'm just determining how many encoder pulses I have between each time the prox is seen.  The problem is that with a 33ms scan rate of the PLC program and with the speed of the machine, the methodology isn't accurate enough.  Is there a way to get more flexibility out of the 1746 HSCE2 card and have it handle more of the task so that I'm not hindered by the PLC scan rate?  For instance, can I wire the prox into the 1746 HSCE2 card to the encoder 2 spot somehow, have the cards processor determine how many encoder counts were seen from encoder 1 between pulses of the prox, and then put that in the encoder 2 count value (the output from the card and the input to the PLC).
  8. Good Afternoon everyone. I am a new user to MrPLC but a frequent visitor. Previously I have managed to find answers to my questions without having to register. My question today involves an Analog Output Card 1746-NO4V. I have installed the same project on 2 separate machines and get the same result on both?? I have a SLC 504, I am using a Schneider XDAL11131 Analog Joystick, feeding into a 1746-NI4 Analog Input Card. I get a full signal from the Joystick. -32767 and 32767. I take this signal and using a couple of SCP's I output to a 1746-NO4V Analog Output card. Again I output a full signal of -32767 and 32767. I was expecting an Output Voltage of +/- 10 Volts but I am only getting +/- 6 volts. I am supplying a Vickers Proportional Valve. How can I achieve +/- 10 volts? Thanks in advance Barry
  9. Hello all, I am trying to download a new program to a AB 1746-BAS SLC 500 BASIC board via RS-232 connection through a Windows 98 laptop running Hyperterminal. While the BASIC board is connected I verify connection by waiting for the board to print out its information in the Hyperterminal program and then enter "CLEAR", "NEW" and finally, "LIST" in Hyperterminal to wipe any program from the board and verify the board is clean respectively. Then I load the new program via a .TXT file using the "Send Text File" option within the Hyperterminal program. After the program has finished loading I than type "LIST" to verify it has copied over correctly. I than switch the SLC over to "Program Mode" via the key. After doing so I type "RAM" to select the program i just uploaded to the BASIC board and then type "PROG" in the Hyperterminal program. I than receive the "Programming Sequence Failure". If anyone has any advice as to what I am doing wrong it would be greatly appreciated. Below is a list of everything I have set and researched.
