Serial-to-Ethernet Converters with CompactLogix
mlb0066 posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hi Everyone, I'm trying to use a Weidmueller IE-CS-2TX-1RS232/485 as a communication device with a SICK CLV503-0000 barcode scanner, taking the RS232 signal from the scanner, then converting it to Ethernet/IP and transmitting it to my controller, which is a CompactLogix L18ERM-BB1B PLC. I was wondering if anyone could find the information to set up the communications in Studio 5000. I'm not having any trouble with the converter receiving the signal from the scanner, but I don't know how to set up the module in Studio 5000 to get the data from the converter, and I can't find that information anywhere on the Weidmueller website. Thanks in advance for your help.- 4 replies

Hi, I am trying to use the CPU Module Logging Configuration Tool and need to open the GX LogViewer. When I try to open the LogViewer, I get the popup message saying "GX LogViewer has not been installed. Download it from the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC FA Global Website". However, even though I am logged in to that website, I cannot see how to download GX LogViewer. There are many other software packages to download but not that one. Does anyone know how to go about downloading GX LogViewer? Kind Regards, Oliver

5069-Serial-DF1 replacing PLC5 Channel 0 DF1
Manfred posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hello, I would like to replace PLC5/40 CH0 communication to an existing Microcontrollersystem with Compact Logix 5069 - Serial. In the Compact Logix I am using a MSG instruction ( PLC5 Typed write ), The Communication works like expected. Compact Logix is receiving Data, but only N100[0] gets updated. The Microcontrollersystem shall send Data to N100, Length 22 Words, Receive Area begins with 0. I have attached an Excel sheet which shows the Data handling. It was not possible for me to Read Data from Local:1:I1.DF1Modem.RxData also Local:1:I1.DF1Modem.RxDataLength does not get changed. It looks like the receiving Data from Microcontroller are direct send to N100. ( most likely following a MSG Write Instruction from Microcontrollersystem ). In PLC5 world an Integer File, like N100, was defined as N100:0, N100:1 etc. there is a difference now within CMPLX, an Integer File looks now: N100[0], N100[1], etc. big question: Does it matter? How can I catch incoming Data to the Serial Modul? PLC5_2_MCS 20240702.docx PLC5 zu LCT3 20240702.docx -

I've setup an Omron NX102 PLC with two CIF105 cards communicating with about 40 MX2 VSD's (20 on each card). Generally it works pretty well. I used the attached document to set up the devices. The links on the document to the examples don't work, so I'm unsure if I missed anything. My problem is that every day, sometimes multiple times a day the communication seems to die. i.e I either loose the output to the VSD and nothing will run. Or it all runs but I loose the feedback, as in I get no running signal even though the drives are running causing a fault in my program. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what might be causing the issue. To resolve it, I put the PLC into program mode and back into run mode and everything is happy again. Has anyone had a similar issue or offer any advise? MX2_Control_Serial.pdf

Omron CQM1H - NOS purchase - ERR/ALM LED On - Program Transfer Problems
JEJump posted a topic in CX-Programmer
Hi Everyone,I have a customer that needs a CQM1H (CPU51) replaced. They purchased the processor new-old-stock from a source they found online. It arrived in the original packaging and had the safety label around the top of the unit, so it seems that it is as advertised and no need to suspect that it would have problems. I purchased secondhand, a power supply to attach to it and program it from the bench instead of in the machine. The customer also provided me with an SD card containing the project file(s) for the machine. I am able to load the project in CX-ONE (running on Win 7) just fine. My computer has a native serial port (COM1) and I built a programming cable to work with the DB9 peripheral port according to a diagram I found online. The processor powers up right away with the ERR/ALM continuously on. No other LEDs came on initially, and after a bit of playing around with communications settings, I finally landed the right protocol and my computer seemed to identify the processor correctly. I compiled the source and attempted a transfer to the PLC. I got some failed message (or maybe messages) at the end of the transfer. It did seem to send all of the binary code, it just ended with an error message that I unfortunately didn't write down or grab a screenshot.Anyway, what I have now is a PLC processor with the ERR/ALM LED on always, I've never seen it in RUN mode, and now after the programming attempt, I'm seeing the COMM LED strobing at about a .5sec frequency (with or without a cable attached to the peripheral port), AND I cannot get CX-Programmer to again acknowledge the processor anymore. I'd like to reset this back to the way it arrived to me, but can't figure out how to make that happen offline. The DIP switches don't seem to cause that effect. I should say also that the DIP switch settings are all OFF except 3 and 7.Any help is much appreciated!Thanks,John- 3 replies

Problem: I am getting a control sync fault on 2 recently installed kinetix 5500 but only when my programing PC is connected to the machine network. Install and setup all went great over a 5 day period. Then all of a sudden I started to get this fault. Sometimes 100 times in an hour. As soon as I go offline, and unplug my PC the problem goes away. I have also tried another PC connected to the Machine network and still get the same result. Sometimes machine can run for hours with my PC connected with no problem. I do not have to be online with controller for fault to occur. Setup: I have the 2 K5500's ethernet ports daisy chained together, and then connected via shielded CAT 6 cable directly to port 2 of the Compact Logix Controller Coarse Update is set to 3.5ms and utilization's are at 33% and below.(I have tried the default 2ms with same results) Ethernet modules are configured with FW rev 7.013. Machine network is isolated.(not connected to plant network or internet) Equipment: Compact logix L33ERM Running version 30.01. There are a total of four servos in this system all running over ethernet. 2 Kinetix 350's(not affected), and 2 kinetix 5500's. I have tried: separate ethernet cables for each drive ran through a switch different ethernet cables resetting coarse update speed connecting a different PC for programming I am just not sure where else to go with this. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello, I'm new to System Platform and am looking for some advice, or some help solving a problem with one of the show / hide dynamic controls. I'm just struggling due to a lack of experience with this system's architecture and I'm hoping that if I provide snips showing the configs of everything, and the scripts, that someone can provide some insight or advice for how to restore the functionality. Which brings me to the problem statement. This is a navigation bar that has been a part of this set of screens and has worked in the past. The navigation bar is controlled dynamically and had three different sets of buttons used for quick navigation to screens that are most important. The three bars are shown / hid depending on what the current screen is. The whole System Platform was upgraded from version 2014 to version 2020 over the Thanksgiving holiday shutdown. Since then, the navigation bar hasn't been working. It appears that it's always hid now. Please take a look the snips I've attached to demonstrate the navigation bar, what it looks like, how its objects are configured, and how the graphic symbols are set and controlled (animations, custom properties). Also, see the snips related to the dynamic control script and associated tags / objects. I'd appreciate any advice or help. (I'm open to text messaging or phone calls too). I am trying to connect a Panel PC (Bartec RS-422) and an Omron PLC (CJ2H RS-232) I am using a Kinematics 2199 RS232 to RS422 converter. Results: Testing software Multiway v9.5 1) Using a usb to rs-232 cable on another PC - I am able to send and receive a hostlink commands between the panel rs-422 converter and the PC rs-232. commands come through correctly 2) Using the PC to connect to the PLC - If I connect directly to the PLC using the usb to serial cable and a short adapter I made to map the Omron PLC pin out 2-2,3-3, 5-9, I can send and receive hostlink commands to the PLC. Everything works as expected 3) Using the Panel and the USB Cable - If I connect the usb converter to the Panel I am also able to communicate with the PLC 4) using the RS-422 port on the Panel - If I connect the panel RS-422 port and converter and then connect to the PLC. I can only send commands; I cannot get any responses come through from the PLC. My converter box has LEDs on the RX and TX channels and I can see the PLC tries to send something. But something must be corrupted as multiway does not show and response. I have tried a bunch of things but I am at a loss on how to diagnose this issue. Since I can get the two PCs talking to each other sending and receiving, I can rule out any wiring issue between the converter box and Panel. Since I can plug the USB into the Panel and get it to work correctly, I can rule out any operating system issues and PLC configuration issues. The only link I cannot verify is that from the converter box to the PLC, I am not sure if the PLC can push hostlink data that has not been requested. I have no idea why I can write to the PLC but not read. If anyone can provide any insights, I would greatly appreciate it, It has been two days and I am stuck. I am looking at maybe getting a logic analyzer to try and see what the PLC is sending back, but that will be months away. I am happy to try any suggestions

Hi, Does anyone know where to get EDS files for GX Works3 ? I can't open a file that I need to access because it has an "Unsupported Module". The module is 007ER-1FL2-T, it shows up on the Mitsubishi website but I cannot see any links to EDS files or any software related to this module. Cheers, Olly

Hi, After a long time, searching for missing communication I think to have found the cause. In this CMP2A plc there is a receiving device connected to the RS-232 port. . During operation it can happen that in the same cycle there will be 2 functions to send different data.. I never receive those 2 data, only 1 is received. I can set a delay for sending this but this seems to be 'overkill', Is there a simpler way to do this..? The 2 pics are part of the program. After putting the P_off before the other transmits, I always receive the TXD(48) DM1621... Please advise,

Hello friends, I hope you're all doing well. I'm reaching out because I find myself in need of some assistance with a situation. As someone new to programming, I recently undertook the task of creating a lengthy program. However, there's a concept I failed to consider and I could really use your expertise on this matter. You see, I've been working with input and output expansion modules, and what caught me off guard was that these modules automatically assigned addresses within a certain range. For instance, X0 was assigned to X15, and X20 to X34. Regrettably, I didn't anticipate this, and I ended up assigning the new device numbers to these expanded modules. I'm wondering if any of you have encountered a similar situation or if you have any advice on how to handle this issue. I'm open to any insights or suggestions you might have. Thank you all for your time and assistance.

Hi, I have a problem with serial communication (no protocol) using rs485 module, the received data is error. I'm using CP1L CPU, CP1W-CIF11 module as transmitter, and USB to RS485 converter as receiver. When I check the received data on PC, it's incorrect (bit error?). I just send 2 bytes data, 0x61 ('a') and 0x62 ('b'). My configuration: DIP switch CPU 4 = off, DIP switch CIF11 1 to 6 = on,on,on,off, off, off, 2 wire RS485. (I also attached the program and settings) https://postimg.cc/gallery/pr293Jc Could you help me to solve this problem? Thanks Program and Settings: Result:

I have a cell phone modem connected to my Omron CP1L on serial 2 Here is the issue I need to pull the phone number out of the msg received (receiving text messages) I receive a text msg and a lot of other crap like time and date ect. RDX says store in D100 the problem is that after I receive the SMS I see the phone number and copy the number to D200 to D2xx The next text comes in and it is added to the length of the previous text and the new phone number is not in the same D area as the first. It seems the only time the serial port works is if you declare 20 characters and you get 20 characters Works every time. But sometimes I may get 12 characters and other times I can get more than 100. I have used the restart and clear port command with no luck. If I set RDX to a large number and receive complete will not come on and the next receive will be added to the first. I need a clear buffer for each receive. How do I get around this? If you set the RDX to 10 but 12 characters were received the 2 extra characters will be in the buffer and added to the next receive. I can’t use end receive if x because there is nothing that is always available in the msg. And even if I do any characters received after end code is left in the buffer and screws up the next receive. I have never seen anything like this. Any ideas? Thanks Rob

1747-L30B Brick SLC "Insufficient Memory Module Size"
abend posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
I have a 1747-L30B SLC Brick and it is set to load from EEPROM on boot S:5/8, Error S:1/10, and Run S:1/12. I need to make changes to the program and then store it to EEPROM via "Comms>EEPROM>Store to EEPROM." When I attempt to store the program with changes, it displays the message "Insufficient Memory Module Size." I assumed the EEPROM memory was maxed out, but I also uploaded the existing program currently stored to EEPROM, made no changes, and attempted storing it back to EEPROM and received the same message. Any advice? -
Sorry its long !! I am recieving text from a GSM modem for text msg Send and receive (SMS) works ok but would be better if I could make use of the start code and end code. This way I could cut down on all the crap that is received when a text arrives. I get this CMTI: "SM",0 I have it stored into D80 and I have that trigger a TXD that sends AT+CMGRD=0 and that tells the GSM to send the msg (The 0 is the current msg in memory) ------ The problem is that there is Carriage Return and Line Feeds in the received msg ---- AS below ((AT+CMGRD=0 +CMGRD: "REC UNREAD","+19028991212","","22/10/20,16:57:54-16" Hello this is the msg OK)) When the PLC sees the carriage return it stops receiving data. And I have no start code or end code setup. (I am using characters received) The way around this is to set a high character count in the RXD (More than the actual msg (More than the msg length) The main issue with that is I get garbage in as the msg gets bigger. Its unreliable. I clear the port after each receive and that helps but still get the odd garbage. (Never get garbage when connected to a terminal prg). Any Ideas???? ps Even the Start Code is unreliable as it will start receiving a few characters late. Rob

Looking for a good USB to Serial (RS232) Converter
KnuckleDragger posted a topic in General Topics - The Lounge
Until recently, I haven't had to connect to a piece of hardware using a serial connection in quite sometime. Well, that all changed yesterday when I needed to connect to a Watlow F4T Controller. I dug around in the bottle drawer of my desk and pulled at not one, but two USB-Serial Converters that I saved for just such an occasion! My old ones worked on everything from Allen Bradley SLCs, to Schneider Drives. Unfortunately, neither appear to work in a Windows 10 environment. Searching the internet, I was not able to find any drivers for these old converters, but did find some posts in another forum stating that Microsoft changed how it manages its USB ports from Win 7 to Win 10. Thanks Microsoft! Sorry, I will cut this rant short and just ask my question. Can anyone recommend a USB-Serial Converter that works in a Windows 10/11 environment? Respectfully, Shane -
Hi, In our machine, we want the homing of linear axis to be - moving to reverse limit. In order to achieve that we connected positive limit to Enable_positive input, negative limit to Enable_negative input of MC_Power function block. We used MC_Home function block and assigned the negative limit to bCalibrationCam of home FB. Things were working correctly. But one thing we noticed is if the axis is in synchronous operation mode(axis following another master axis), even the limit is engaged axis is not stopping. During discrete movement this was stopping. Is there any other way to configure limit switch in twincat3.
