  1. The 1980s brought the early adoption of the PC platform in automation systems and the first large projects, using the PCs to communicate with PLCs. In the following decades, supervisory and control systems technology evolved, creating several generations of software tools and automation products. A generation means an evolutionary step and a new platform, with a total change of the programming methods, user interfaces and paradigms, going beyond than the merely incremental improvements that are made during the maintenance life cycle of products; a new generation means renewing the internal architecture. 3. Industrial automation

Hello! I am doing a project for an industry to make the sensor tools wireless. I am new to PLC. is it possible to make the measuring tools with sensors wireless with PLC? does it work on a industry environment and what kind of technology is best for comminucation? wifi or bluetooth?   The existing sensors are connected with wires to a screen which says if the product is ok or not ok. I need to make this wireless. Any suggestions to make it easy?   please suggest me the boards to buy to try prototyping.

  6.   Hi everybody, this is me psoting for the first time here.  Currently I am taking a distributed control systems course, and one of our current tasks is the following: "Develop a control system with the task to control an induction (asnychronous) motor. You may use HMI SCU 8B5 (Schneider electric PLC) and Altivar71( Schneider VFD). The communication protocol to be used is CanOpen. The process should be visualized on the HMI of the PLC. Using the IGSS scada system, you should be able to control and observe the system on a PC." I have written the SoMachine program that I will upload to the PLC(basically Schneider provided the code for the exact same hardware:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VW9deqK5TeEEQeA6fZZjteijUs7xVPcH/view?usp=sharing). Then I moved on to set up the IGSS scada program, following the pdf manual listed on their site, page 18 and on:http://d2i1dro1ulg1xm.cloudfront.net/training/FullWS_Exercise_Master.pdf . I tried to follow through all the steps, however I do have a few questions. First, in step 8., which driver should I use for my hardware? I selected the Modicon driver, as that was one of the few Schneider drivers available(see attached image). My second question is with regards to connecting the variables that the PLC sends to the PC and actual objects in the graphical environment, such as on page 32. How do I do it? If anyone has more materials on this topic, it would be greatly appreciated. I can't get any help from my tutor(he refuses, and says we do our own research). If you know somebody who could perhaps help me out on this one, please feel free to share with them this question.
  7. FX1N Counter operation

We are working on a project that operates a set of 4 pneumatic solenoid cylinders using GX developer PLC type FX1N (C). when the desired sequence is selected, the cylinders operate in the order needed until they reach the counter. the counter value increases by 1 but does not run through the sequence again and cant move forward until the value of the counter is reached.  any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

  9. Gang, Hooking up an Automation Direct P2-32TD2P to an AC/DC LED and noticed the LED is always "on" a little bit. When the output is on, the LED is certainly on, but when the output is off the LED is still on by a fractional amount, not much but it's plainly noticeable the room lights are off. The CPU can be in Stop, no matter, power just has to be on. I think this has to do with the card's load disconnected error functionality. +24V and some fraction of amps is always present at the output whether the output is on or off. I talked with automation people at work who noted there is an Allen Bradley system that does the same thing, it caused them a problem, they had to use a relay or etc to make an off output actually be off. Has anyone dealt with this? I'm new to the Productivity software, but there doesn't seem to be a way to just turn it off in the IDE. It seems ridiculous to have to wire up transistors or relays just to have off be off. Thanks for any ideas.
  10. Hey guys,   I have worked on the FTView ME platform many of times.  I am now working on a FTView SE (Local Station) application, and I am having trouble connecting an Offline .ACD file to my program so that I can design.   If someone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks in advance!
  11. Hello, I am new to the forum. Being doing a lot of googling to see if theirs any cross-compatibility between an M241 PLC and a Simatic panel PC and stumbled across this forum which hopefully could help me out. I'm starting an automation project to automate my home brewery. The M241 from Schneider electric seems to tick the boxes for what I require.  At my work theirs a redundant Simatic Panel PC 670 just waiting to be recycled. My question is, can I use the panel pc purely as an HMI for the M241?
  12. I'm being asked to come up with ways to upgrade an old 5/05 rack. A few years ago I thought I remembered Allen Bradley having a special rack that would allow a new processor control various old IO types. Does anyone remember the name of that system? and has anyone used it? We will probably replace with an Automation Direct PLC (per their request) but, want to offer an Allen Bradley solution as well
  13. Hi Everyone! Where are my experts? I am undertaking a project at work. The project contains analog style motor positioning circuits (operational amplifiers, integrators, and other PI elements). Not that this is relevant to the post yet ;) .It's my first PLC project ever! I am using the Schneider M258 with SoMachine 4.1 The PLC is talking to SoMachine via Ethernet (obviously I have a router between the PLC and my pc).I can Login and run the first POU I created. It's a simple And logic circuit for now. I have a co worker (c programmer) agreeing to help me pass data from my PLC to a browser screen. Although he's not familiar with PLC he's quite skilled writing code. He has wrote a Modbus protocol which allows him to interpret Modbus commands on his desktop.   1) Do I Need any special hardware to pass the data out of the PLC into the Router then into his browser. 2) As a trial can I send him MODBUS commands regarding my AND circuit? 3) How do I create such a command? 4) Is it possible for him to send me Modbus commands to change variables inside my program? 5) Are there web browser "plug-ins" for this idea? Thanks for reading and hopefully all of you can help me answer some of these questions.
  14. Hi all,   currently as part of a project I am trying to communicate between a Schneider M340 plc and an Allen Bradley micrologix processor. I am programming the M340 and the micrologix has been installed by another supplier. they have mapped the Modbus registers on their side and given me a spreadsheet with these.  I am able to read values with no issue but I cannot write values back.   i've included a screenshot or the read_var and write_var instructions I am using. I would really appreciate any help if anyone has any insight on this   Mark

  16. C-More Recipes

Hi everyone, I am using an EA9 touch panel from automation direct. I am using C-more's "call recipe" function to create and write new recipes, inputted by the user. My problem is that every time I make a change in C-more and send it to the panel, I lose all of the recipes created by the user because they are over written by the ones (there and not there) in my recipe database, on my computer. Now, I know this can be avoided by just uploading from the panel to start with. But inevitably, I will forget to do that one day. I would like to store the recipes on an SD card, so that they will not be lost when I make changes to the program. Has anyone done this before? Is it possible?
  17. Hello all, I am still fairly new to this forum and PLC's in general. I am trying to connect a EA9 touch panel via Ethernet to an Allen Bradley Micro Logix 1400 PLC. I am using Ethernet over serial because I need the serial connection to program while using the touch panel. I have given the Panel the IP Address 192.168.1.20 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and I have given the PLC the IP address 192.168.1.10 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The panel is not communicating with the PLC and I have very little knowledge on the subject, anyone's help would be greatly appreciated. The picture on the top is from the PLC and the picture on the bottom is from the C-More program for the panel.

  19. Hi all, I am working at a company that has a paint booth that is rather outdated. It has 10 robots in the booth and the safety circuit for each robot is controlled by a Modicon Nano TSX PLC. I have managed to successfully download the programs with the PL7-07 software (managed to do it on a laptop with window XP). We have some back up programs that were taken roughly 4 years ago and I would like to load them both up on the software and compare them. Is this function possible and if so how do I do it?   Thanks  Shane

  24. Choosing the right OMRON PLC - Vacuum System

Hi All, I'm hoping someone can help me. We're currently in the very early stages of re-designing how our vacuum system works. Currently we have 6 vacuum pumps supplying around 8 different packaging machines which we currently have to turn on and off manually depending on the demand on the machines. The challenge is to design and implement a part or fully automated system to control the current vacuum pumps - The key requirements are Supply must equal demand for the vacuum pumps - so they are only used when neededAutomatic switch-off when not in useCycling the use of the vacuum pumps so as not to overuse oneAbility to take a pump out of the loop for service/breakdownsManual override/shut-offScope for expansionUser-friendly interface (possibly touch-screen/wireless)I am a complete novice when it comes to OMRON PLC work and would like some guidance on possibly similar projects or at least pointing in the right direction with which PLC to go for. Thanks for your time Jack
