Hello everyone. I've been utilizing this forum for a while now, but this is my first time posting. I am very "green behind the gills" in the PLC programming world. I am learning as I go so please be patient with me. I have a display on my HMI that shows all of our PLCs in the field and what mode they are in. I am needing to also display the firmware revision that each PLC has. Is this possible to pull the firmware revision as a tag so I can display it on my HMI? I am using majority of 1769-L35E with a few micrologix 1400s. Thank you.

508A panel needs to switch a 120v hot from outside the cabinet
abrahamsolar posted a topic in Control Panel Building
Hi from Colorado, Panel Builders @ MRPLC~ I bought a custom 508A assembly from a UL shop (277/480v 3 phase). The prototype didn't work out very well so I'm revising the design for next time. Before I present my "red line" revisions to the fabricator, could someone advise if I'm OK to simplify part of the work in a particular way? I just need to make sure my simplification doesn't run afoul of the 508A standard. My clients requested that a ten watt 120vAC amber LED (distant from the 508A cabinet) should light up whenever the 3 phase bus is energized. The panel fabricator provided an SSR solid state relay to close whenever 277v shows up across the "input" terminals & they fused the 277v hot for the input so that's all good. The "output" terminal is "single pole normally open", rated for 10 amps. The power that I'm sending in from outside the cabinet is from a small UPS system where the inverter is rated for 250VA's--so it can't deliver more than two amps @ 120vAC. It seems to me that I don't need the series fuse that the shop provided to protect the 10 amp rating on the SSR--since my input power is already current limited. It also seems that I don't need to bring the associated single phase neutral wire into the 508A cabinet at all--since the neutral is never switched & it's doing nothing inside the 3 ph. assembly. If I revise the drawings along these lines, I'll eliminate two terminal blocks, a cc fuse/fuse holder & some wire...and this part of the assembly will be simpler & more intuitive. Basically, I want to treat the SSR like a switch leg for the light, running only a 120v hot wire to & from the SSR output terminals. I don't want to revise the drawings, however, unless I'm sure the fabricator won't have to change them back to comply with UL 508A. I don't own the UL "standard" document & I don't know the peculiarities...but I'm sure some of the forum members do. Should I add signage to explain that the 120v hot must be current limited or OCPD protected before it enters the 3 phase cabinet? Thanks in advance for any coaching or suggestions. -
Good afternoon, I'm trying to add a custom image to the screen saver on the NA5 HMI, has anyone had experience with this? I can get to the screen saver setting on the device but there's only "Blank" screen as default, but I'd like to add my own image instead. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hi all, Hope everyone is doing well. I'm currently in the process of starting a home based control panel shop. I have about 8 years of control panel building experience and about 2-3 years of being shop team lead/design engineering. I have been planning this for years and now I have my shop full of necessary tools and material to build small/medium sized panels. I have gone through all the training and examination(which was not easy) to be able to produce UL508A approved panels. My goal is to produce a steady work load with great quality. Now I just need an opportunity with customers which I find to be the hard part. I have been contacting local industries but haven't had any luck. If anyone out there is seeking control panels built at a good competitive rate please advice.

hello, I want to ask, maybe some of you know about this, I want to take a program on compactlogix but it has a firmware version 19.xx while the rslogix application I have is version 21.xx, there are several options offered by the application to be able to take the program, update the firmware in compactlogix or downgrade the rslogixku application to version 19.xx. if i upgrade the firmware in compactlogix, what about the program is the program safe or not, and if i upgrade the firmware will the program in compactlogix work properly?

I've a PVP6 1250, firmware 10.001, need to flash this to take a FTV rev.12 project. Downloaded the rev 12 firmware from the rockwell site (PVP6_700-1500_12.00-20200922), unzip, install, run controlflash and it does not see the new firmware. ok, I see where the controlflash file needs to be a .DMK, this installed a .FUP file. Tried running controlflash plus, goes through its "loading firmware kits" and "building inventory" steps. It does see the panelview but reports no firmware found. What am I missing, its been a handful of years since I've last done a panelview flash. And of course I'm getting "now now now, fast fast fast, hurry, hurry, hurry, why isnt it done yet"

I'm an automation tech in a tool and manufacturing facility. Lately, we've quoted a few projects for customers that include tooling (stamping dies usually) as well as some partial automation. The automation is fairly simple usually...motor, drive, actuator to transfer material in 2 axes, e.g. The company president and quoting engineers don't think it's a big deal for us to do this, but I'm a little wary to agree to these projects. I have 2 years experience doing all sorts of small programming tasks, wiring, control panel design and build, troubleshoot, etc. However, I also know that there are a lot of industry and safety standards to follow when you start machine building/integrating for customers. The tooling build is straightforward and is our forte. But we have no electrical/controls engineers, and we have no standards really for automation "builds". I've done smaller projects for us and I'm trying to develop some sort of standards, but there was nothing like that when I came into this position. Anyway, should I undertake these sorts of projects in your opinion or not? And if I would, what sort of knowledge/standards should I master in terms of liability and safety, and where would be a good place to start in developing a wiring/electrical schematic standard? Thanks for your assistance. Andrew

MDS instruction would not complete
Hycintia Subash posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hany any you of guys dealt with MDS instruction not completing and being stuck on .EN bit but the motor itself just stopped running out of nowhere? I did read the tech note on this on Rockwell's website. Am mostly wondering if any of you have dealt with this and what you did to fix this.- 2 replies

Good afternoon. I am trying to carry out the communication of a CP1L-EM by TCP socket with a scale module, however I still haven't been successful. I have the Open_socket, Send_Socket and Close_Socket blocks. I tried to make a Receive_socket block but I don't know if something is wrong. Does anyone have the Receive_Socket block tested with CP1L-EM available to supply me? I am very grateful!

Can't see Micro850 after failed firmware update
Tijana posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hello everyone! This is the first time I use Micro850 controller (2080-LC50-48QWB) and after I made a really simple programme (just for testing) I wanted to download it to my controller (which I was able to see and connect to via Ethernet and USB normally) and I got a message saying that firmware version didn't match (programme - v9, and PLC - v4). So I found some datasheet where was explained how to upgrade device firmware with ControlFLASH. I started the mentioned software, choose the right controller, and I choose the version 9 and the process started, but near the end I got the ERROR message, and the update wasn't finished successfully. So my controller went to fault (FAULT red light flashes) and now I can not see it in RSLinx nor via Ethernet nor USB. Does anyone have any idea what could I do to try to establish connection with my controller? I have tried to change from prog mode to run, and back to prog, but the fault remains. I really hope that I didn't make some serious mistake, because we need this PLC very soon for work. Thanks in advance! -
Hi, Can anyone advise on how to upgrade the firmware on Kinetix 3 drives (2071-AP8 Series A)? There is a firmware update option in Ultraware, but when I try that it says something like f/w version does not support upgrade. Is it actually possible to upgrade them at all? You can download new versions from the AB website, which suggests it must be possible. They currently have v2.00, and latest version is v2.23. I know these are old drives, but they still work so might as well get some use out of them. Thanks, James.

Hello everybody I have strange effects when connection MODBUS TCP IO-Boxses from my FX5U-80xx. So I thought about looking for network issues fixed in the firmware. So, the website below has firmware 1.201 and I have 1.110 currently. Does anybody know where to look for the revision history of these Firmware fixes? https://www.mitsubishielectric.com/fa/download/software/cnt/plc/index.html#js_swdata_cat_9 The Japanese have some more info here: https://www.mitsubishielectric.co.jp/fa/download/software/detailsearch.do?mode=software&kisyu=/plcf&shiryoid=0000000051&lang=1&select=0&softid=1&infostatus=8_1_1&viewradio=1&viewstatus=&viewpos= Translate: "New functions added in firmware version 1.201 (2019/11) For details on the additional functions, refer to "Addition and modification of functions" in the related manual "MELSEC iQ-F FX5 User's Manual (Application)". The CPU unit serial number can be used from "17X ****" or later." I was not able to download these manuals (Japanese login screen). So I googled it and found it. But I was not able to find it in this document. If someone knows more. Would be nice. Thank you DWIM

Can I download an old program (written with RS Logix 500 version 5.2) into a newer SLC 5/04 Series C with a higher FRN than my copy of RS Logix supports? I don't want to use any newer functionality. Just wanting to get a spare 5/04 and load the application software on so it is ready to swap out in the event of a failure. I see some 5/04's on eBay that are new in box but have a FRN of 11 which wasn't out at the time my version of RSLogix was created.

Hi all, I am trying to update the firmware of a NS12-TS01B-V2. I have downloaded the RecoverUpdate_8_95.exe (and someothers) from the myomron website. I have followed the instrucctions PDF, but when I switch on the HMI with the Compact Flash inserted, nothing happens: the screen is dark and the led is lit orange (not blinking). The compact flash is 1GB (not omron) and formated using a CJ2. I have been using this card in OMRON PLCs and HMIs for years without problems. I read in other topic than I guy had similar problems and he solved it using other computer and other unzipper program. I have tried it, but it did not work. After that, I tried to update it using the DIP switches, but I got more problems, because I got a Warning first, and later an Error, because I forced the installation of the Firmware of the NS8 (BANK1) instead of the NS12. However, the other BANK folder contains the FW for the NS5... Anyway, I could fix this error because previously I did a backup of the already installed system (V7.0). I would like to ask you to send me a BackUp of another NS12, using the "Manual Transfer", that should works. I need the 8.20 version or higher. Thanks a lot. My email is hector.moreno.lax@gmail.com

Hello,I am sizing a feeder circuit for a panel according to UL 508A and came into a question:My input current is of 76.5 A (considering all the loads), thus, it is fine for me to use a cable of 4 AWG (max. 85A @ 75 c).For the circuit breaker I did 76.5 A x 1.25 = 96 A and then I selected a breaker of 100A.My question is: Is it ok for me to keep this configuration according to UL 508A? 100A breaker + 4 AWG load side cableOr do I need to level up the cables?Thank you very much in advance!

Hello everyone! I am new to Eplan, and I am working on a big project on which someone else has worked on before me and almost finished it, but with a lot of technical mistakes and missing peaces. My boss expects me to fix a lot of things, but I have no experience with this software, so I could use some help. The problem is that no revision information (revision date, description, approved by etc) is displayed in this project, and I don't know how to make it appear, and be correct. I have made changes in plot frame and added special texts which should display these data, but I don't know where should I define wanted information (for example, I put special text for "approved by" but I can't seem to find adequate place to write the name of that person)? And, is there a way for Eplan to generate automatically revision description, based on the changes I made? From all said, it is obvious that I have no idea at all how revisions work, so any help would be enormously appreciated Thank you in advance! Cheers
