  1. CLX L61 Lossing it's mind?

I've had a CLX system drop it's program for no apparent reason, AB tech support advised upgrade the processor firmware which was done and it has been OK so far. The processor was on v16 before the upgrade.
  2. Just come to look at an SLC program and discovered that all my activations for logix 500, 5, 5000, rsview enterprise, you name it are screwed. Looking on the AB website it says delete 386swap.par and evrsi.sys and reload them again. As luck would have it I've got all my activations on a windows 2000 harddrive (old drive before upgrading to a bigger drive and windows xp sp 2) which means I'm OK for now with my cloned disk plugged in and the activations being accessed from there. My main question is how have these got screwed up? Then how can I get them back to my main laptop disk?
  3. Activation problems

Very interesting, I had saved the two files under different extensions and the evrsi.sys attributes had changed. The permissions were also different on the two files.
  4. Activation problems

Managed to move them with EVMOVE started from a floppy with my old drive in the caddy and moved my 10 licences from E drive to C drive. Now just need to not let it happen again .......
  5. RJ-45 connector on 1794-ACN15

You can plug in a comms cable and get online. I've got a controlnet pcmcia card and cable which I can then go online with the processor/ schedule the network etc etc.
  6. I have a copy of PL7-2 software installed on a windows 95 laptop. I have a PIF configured to restart the pc in dos mode when I want to run it, and all seems ok when it reboots in dos and displays the terminal screen. However when I select a command I receive the message : NOT ALLOWED (insuff. rights) The software is V5.1 is this the non-dongled software? I have the dongles anyway which are also plugged in when I receive the above message. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  7. PL7-2 software question

All sorted, unfortunately not sure what I have done, but it involved removing it and installing it a couple of times, then hey presto it works. Version 5.1 does not require the dongle.
  8. PanelView Plus 600

I haven't got a PV at the moment to test on but if you load up the value tag in the PLC with your string then press on the string input button, does the string appear in the scratchpad. I seem to remember that this was the case with numeric input buttons as I had to ensure I was clearing the data on one project.
  9. PV+ Question

I have used the following with good success, set up your tag in ME then in the Connections tab for your multistate indicator use the following format: {YOUR_TAG} & 15, this creates a mask for the first 4 bits, i.e bit 0 = 1's, bit 1 = 2's, bit 2 = 4's, bit 3 = 8's - 1+2+4+8 = 15. Then in the message state use the value which corresponds with the bit. I've used this for showing the states of motors e.g STOPPED, FWD, REV. I can use 2 bits within a word for one motor to show its 3 states, I can then use that word to display info for 8 motors (with a 16 bit word).
  10. 1756-DHRIO Channel Not ON LINE

Have you set up the module in RSlinx, if you right click the module there is further configuration that you must do to set it up. Download the module manual from the A-B website and see section 3 - Using Programming Software in DH+ Applications
  11. If you're using the DH485 port you can use a 1747-C10 (1.8m) or a 1747-C20 (6m) If you're using the 9 pin d type with dh485 protocol you can make your own pin 2 to 2, 3 to 3, 5 to 5 or buy a 2711-NC13
  12. PID question

Can anyone point me in the right direction with this one: I need to use a PID loop within the PLC to monitor pressure in pipework and control a pump accordingly to maintain a set value. That part's not too bad. However, it is required that if demand is high and the pump is reaching its capacity or some threshold to be determined then I am to start a 2nd pump to supplement the 1st pump. Any ideas how this could work, how would you factor this in with the PID loop?
  13. S7 300 Getting online

Ist post in the siemens Section. What do I need to get online with an S7 300 PLC. Haven't got the exact model number, sorry, but it was installed last year. I have some leads (232 with a converter) and software for S7 200, will this do the job? Thanks in advance.
  14. PID question

Does the second pump have the ability to modulate or must it run at a fixed output? If it must run at a fixed output, and that output is less than the first pump, then you may be able to simply turn it on and let the PID ramp the first pump down to a lower output. If the second pump is larger than the first, that approach won't work. The 2nd pump will be the same size as the first, I had thought I could ramp this one up to a speed and the 1st will lower its speed via the PID to compensate. Say demand now drops I will need the 2nd pump to ramp down to standstill and the 1st pump to speed-up via the PID loop. I suppose I could apply some threshold parameters to perform this. If the second pump can modulate, then you can lock the first pump at some output level and let the PID control the second pump in response to changes in pressure. I must control the pressure with one pump and use the 2nd to supplement it. You could also simply turn on the second pump and let the PID control both simultaneously. I must control the pressure with one pump and use the 2nd to supplement it. Issues you might have to deal with include whether a single set of PID tuning parameters will work for both pumps if only one is allowed to modulate at a time. The closer the two pumps are in capacity, the better your chances. If both pumps can modulate simultaneously, will the PID tuning parameters that work for a single pump also work when both pumps are contributing. Another thought has just occurred, control the pressure with pump 1 PID control, when demand increases allow a certain frequency to be acheived, then lock that pump at that frequency. As frequency demand increases, start-up the 2nd pump and use a 2nd PID loop to control the pressure using pump 2. Anyone see any holes in that?
  15. Panelview 600+ Question

You need to set up an analog tag in triggers eg Alarm_word_1, then in messages you set the trigger value to 1 for the 1st message, 2 for the 2nd, 3 for the 3rd and so on up to 16. Then if you need more alarms create Alarm_word_2 and so on. In your PLC you then operate the corresponding bit when that alarm condition is present. Not sure about the shutdown time, it can sometimes take a short while but never 5 mins.
  16. Clx Battery Issues

Thanks for the info Ken, I am chasing this up right now with tech support. Our processors were purchased Mar 2007 so I am sure they are from the manufacturing dates on the article.
  17. Clx Battery Issues

Just completed a project using a L61 processor myself, during the software writing stage I was out of the office for 2-3 weeks onsite so the test rig was powered down. On my return my battery was dead. Tech support (UK) recommended installing the 1756-BATM unit. Which I did for piece of mind. It seems the L6x CLX processors eat these smaller batteries if left off for a while. This is from tech note 21152 Battery life when using the L63/A is 4 weeks with standard battery, 213 days with batm.

"If you use a GSC module all the programming is done with logic and you wont have to program the Basic module" Forgive my ignorance, but what is a GSC module?
  19. Anybody done a conversion from PLC2 or 5 to CLX for a system that contains a 1771-QA stepper positionning assembly? I am in the process of doing just that, and it looks straightforward enough as it uses block transfers which I have done with msg instructions. I have then replicated the PLC2 code. I'm just wondering if anyone has any previous experience of this and if there is any pitfalls waiting for me? Thanks
  20. Logicmaster programming

Found it, from the edit menu you press shift F10 OPN SP, you then get another menu where you can add rows, columns etc. Knew it would be there, somewhere! You just beat me there Steve with your answer, thanks
  21. Logicmaster programming

I am adding some additional mods to a Micro program and have the following question: How do I insert a column in a parallel branch network, so I can add further conditions. Thanks in advance
  22. RIO Module Compatability

Yes, I fitted ASB's to a PLC2 system a few years back, replacing the adapters with the thick cables (not sure of the code)
  23. I'm looking at upgrading a PLC2/30 to CLX and have a few cards that are not available, these are : 1771-DA - could use the processor port or a Prosoft ASCII card, anybody used the Prosoft card, any comments about it? 1771-IG - 8 bit 5V TTL module, no card seems to be available, any ideas anyone? 1771-QA - Stepper module, i've found an AMCI stepper module for the CLX, anybody used one of these? I need a pulse train of approx 1.5Khz, is the CLX capable of doing this on an output (like MLogix), anybody attempted this? Any comments or suggestions would be welcome.
