  1. Logix5000 V20 won't start

Interestingly, I have seen this happen before also. I did the same as you and things did start magically working again. I feel like I broke something bigger this time. Maybe it's a corrupted recovery file that hangs the program? No, the recovery window only pops up when one opens the project, unless I'm mistaken. I've tried opening the program without loading a project and there is no difference. At this point I am installing Logix onto a virtual machine I have with winXP. (I use VM's with FactoryTalk View already because it destroys your system's resources for all time, even when the program is not running). I'll let you know if it worked in about six hours -- when this massive beast of a pain-in-the-neck program is finally done installing. I can still run RSLinx and old RSL500, and everything activates and loads just fine.
  2. Logix5000 V20 won't start

FactoryTalk V3.50 is installed; I use a dongle to hold my activation.
  3. Greetings. I couldn't believe that I am the first with this problem, but my search failed to find a topic. This started after my laptop battery died while online with a processor. The M.O. now is start Logix, splashscreen looks normal, takes about the usual amount of time displaying the splash screen, then it dissappears and there is nothing. No program, no errors. The process for RS5000.exe is in windows task manager, and more will show up each time the program is attempted, but there are no application for Logix visible. Here's what I have tried to fix this: -Reboot & launch. -Reboot. -Reboot & launch. -Power-off-on & launch. -Launch Logix five more times then wait an hour for it to miraculously start. -Reboot. -Reinstall Logix5000. -Reboot & launch. -Beg for help on the internet.
  4. CompactLogix CF compatability

Somewhat related question: does anyone have the "Removable Media Explorer" from Rockwell? Apparently it's a driver installed in windows that allows you to access the CF/SD in a Logix5000 controller as a removable flash drive. I see tutorials on how to use it, but there is no installation that I can find.
  5. CompactLogix CF compatability

Thanks Ken, this is good stuff. Doing some research is yielding further confusion: Most chips since 2007 are NAND architecture. SLC and MLC are two types that can have NAND architecture. There are also Type I and Type II CF cards, which are 3.3 and 5mm respectively, but otherwise have the same electrical specification. Type II are commonly magnetic hard drives as opposed to SSD. Consumer vs Industrial seems to indicate the difference between operating temperatures, vibration and impact limits. It seems to be another feat in itself to identify what a particular CF card is categorized as. On top of that, determining what the AB card is...
  6. I've read quite a few threads on this forum regarding the kinds of CF cards people have failures with in various devices, but none specify a CF card that DOES work in the CompactLogix (specifically, L3x and L4xS) line of processors. We've previously used AXIOM in our panelviews, and SANDISK in ControlLogix, but neither work in the new compactlogix. Well, it works if you insert the card after the PLC has booted. All ladder-based file writing works fine with no errors. However, if you boot the PLC with the card inserted, it locks up and causes a major fault after about a minute. Even when ALL ladder-based data storage logic is removed, the start-up fault still occurs. That said, the 1784-CF64 is more than $120, whereas any other brand is maybe 20% of that. Sounds like a scam to me. I hope there are alternatives because we sell dozens of these each year. As a side rant: AB tried the same thing with the Fiber Converters on their new CITRIX switches. They sell them "cheap" to us at $1000, but we finally found an alternative that works great for $80.
  7. I think I know the problem ... I just got the control to work with 4 Words instead of 12. I think 12 Word means 12 in and 12 out, whereas the ACS800 only has 12 total: 6 in, 6 out. Too bad there is no 6-word Assembly for 103 and 102....
  8. RSLogix5000 18.00 and Linx 2.51 on WinXP Pro SP2 x86. Trying to use EthernetIP ENBT module to connect through a MOXA switch to ABB's RETA-01 module on an ACS800-U11. I can connect and control the drive and motor with no problems using Assemblies 101 and 100. When using Assemblies 103 and 102 I get the error: "16#0109 TAG: Abb-RETA:I" on the ETHERNET - MODULE Generic. The Data Types (which I got from ABB) are 24 Bytes for both input and output. The ETHERNET - MODULE is set to use 103 and 102 each with 12 (16 bit) words. The ACS800 uses 12 words for its fieldbus communications. All the sizes seem to match up, yet there is still a sizing error...
  9. Well, the only thing RSLinx diagnostics tells me is that communications were canceled. They work for about ten seconds, then stop. 2.56 upgrade changes nothing.
  10. Connecting through Ethernet, RSLinx Classic version is 2.55 (upgrading to 2.56 as soon as it installs). This is a brand new Dell with Win7 64 bit native. I actually haven't done any kind of physical troubleshooting. I assumed it was windows7 because my XP box with the same install versions of RS just a few feet away works fine through the same ethernet switch. I will take a look and post the diag info in RSlinx when I get it up and running.
  11. First I'd like to say: why didn't RS make version 18 compatible with Win7? Second, I mean to say this is referring to RSLogix 500 Pro 8.10 CPR9 ... sorry. I've read many threads full of people saying they could install ControlLogix just fine under Win7's XP Virtual machine. So did I, there's no problem there. I can download (10% of the time corrupting processors), update firmware (50% of the time nearly bricking processors), and Go Online (for thirty seconds at a time). Needless to say, something is happening to the communications that RS doesn't like. Has anyone else seen issues like this, either on Win7 or on another OS? Was there a solution? Does anyone know if there is some kind of protocol that should be installed that gives better comm consistency? Or a higher priority for the Virtual Machine, or something along those lines? Any help is greatly appreciated.
