tashinz liked a post in a topic: VCTF cable for Compobus/S and CompoNet

If you will search in the forum you will find that Omron has not to good experiences in the implementation of EIP by third party vendors. I also had my fair chair. Although it is possible to hook up third party IO to a CJ2 over EIP it is every time a gamble. The issue is that Omron just sticks to the EIP-specification and that the third party manufacturers just forget some essential points. And that it works with RA does not mean the device is according to the spec. Also RA has a very loose implementation of EIP. Now for CompoNet, I like it for its simplicity and speed. To my opinion it is only outperformed by EtherCat but Omron is releasing that also for their new motion products. I/O on EtherCat is also on its way it seems.

Hi, Sorry but the PLC only forwards FINS. No other network traffic. Regards, René

Hi Chris, Why would you like to have a gateway from CompoNet to DeviceNet. That is not really something where CompoNet is targeted for. It has only a minimal IO-size. DeviceNet can move much more data. However CompoNet is much faster then DeviceNet. CompoNet is defined as a sensor/actuator network. So it is at a lower level then DeviceNet in the automation pyramid. Its main task is I/O-data exchange. I you have a Device-netwerk segment somewhere and want to get this data to somewhere else then you are maybe better of by having a PLC with DeviceNet Master and exchange the data then over EhterNet/IP. Just my two euro cents, René.

Thanks for the response but I told you so, first get your network sorted and CAn will run forever. Cort21 is rock-solid. Regards, René.

It is actually quite easy but needs some programming effort. If you install Cx-ServerLite you will get a toolkit to access Cx-Server. with that you can sent RAW-FINS. From there you must see what to put in the data of the FINS message. It depends on the network you are using. DeviceNet is different to Profibus. For DeviecNet you need to compose an explicit message (FINS2801) But Omron has been so kind to implement this also in PROFIBUS. Although PROFIBUS only does a-cyclic comms. You need to do some studying and maybe the informationis a littlebit scattered over different manuals but you can use the FB's available as an example. Quite a task but at the end it certainly pays off. Regards, René

You can setup ETN21 in such a way that it can be reached. from the Internet. Two ways are VPN or Port-forwarding. Check the router you have for its capabilities. VPN is not always supported but portforwarding is. Maybe you can use DynDNS to reach your router by name instead of IP-address.

You can use Multiway from JP to use as a terminal from your PC. Pretty programs very good to use. Search on this site and you'll find it.

Checked my version 8.30 of Cx-P. I don't see this Multi PLC entry in the Options General although there is space to it. I rattle the cache here at tech support. Maybe they know. I happen to know that some of the Cx-P stuff is made in the UK. Sorry I can't contribute more. Good luck with the re-install.

Yes you need to purchase the parts that PMCR showed you. For the IP20 kind of products delivers an open style connector free of charge. Be aware to terminate the DeviceNet correctly with 120 ohms resistors at both ends.

Baudrate? Did you set the Baudrate correctly? error 02 means Bus off. The CAN-controller decided that it can't communicate on the network because of to many error-frames. So it switches to Bus off Commonly this is or termination or baudrate or a bad network. Obviously your unit is powered as you don't get an 01 error. BTW. There are some FB's at myomron.com to make configuration easier. For the rest this a nifty unit. Very easy to use and very versatile. Regards, René.

Luckily I'm registered so I have a go at that one. Thanks for the tip. -
Must agree also

Must see. If you have a CAN dock for your IPhone/Touch. Or use a Wifi OBDII Connector. Yeah I see some possibilites.
