  1. I geared my career more towards electrical, Instrumentation and controls. I haven't done any programming in a few years. I make good money and the work is interesting. It's always 6 one way half a dozen the other. I travel lots so that part is getting old. Best of luck.

Did you guys pay a fee? Are you active on it? I guess I'm asking if it's worth it.

Has anyone joined this group. I looked into seems like there is a fee. I don't mind the fee but only if it's effective.
  5. Starting a business?

Thanks guys. This is the method I am hoping to get. Support shops on projects, preventive maintenance, or repairs. I am located in Western PA. I am looking to relocate to the Raleigh area. My license will be good in NC.
  6. I was wondering what you guys see in the industry as far as one man shops supporting industrial work. I support the I&C shops at the nuclear refuel outages. Usually that work is seasonal. Instead of starting a EC business I was thinking of a Technical Service. I am a state licensed electrician. I haven't done much PLC work in the last few years. Most of my skill is in the trouble shooting side. I wanted to keep things simple and easy. I still want to work the outages maybe 1 or 2 a year. Do any of you guys see temp workers come in? I have been in contact with ECs in my area. Is seems I won't be able to go with them. I will have to market to their clients. Any input or advice would be great. Ken
  7. I currently travel for work through a recruiter. I am trying to get out of so much traveling. I have looking into being an IC. Is there anyone out there that can help me in anyway? I am extremely new to this type of work. Rates, Contracts, getting work are a few things I am lost on. ken
  8. New guy needs help

Thanks everyone, Yes hands on is the only way to go. There is so much out there to know it all. The problem is starting out in the field. I'll keep my eyes open.
  9. New guy needs help

I'm a master electrician been in the field for 7 years 5 for industrial maintenance, and 2 in commercial construction and industrical design to build stuff.I have a AST degree and a vocational tech school. I have been in the microsoft A+, and Net+ courses. I was and instrumentation controls tech for alittle over 4 years.Been in some factory traning for fiber optic, and basic instrumentation. The class now is with the SLC 500 We are learning the grt, equ, les, mov functions. I know the timers, counters, mcr, latch, unlatch. the basic stuff. we are now starting in these other controllers which are useless for me. they are really old real old. handheld old. I ask the instructor if i can work on making other functions work he doesn't mind. I"m guessing this is the lounge area. thanks for your replies.
  10. I have been invovled with minor PLC work for the past 6 years on and off. The only programming I have done in the field is a simple 10 rung program. I am currently unemployed and i'm taking a PLC class at a local vocational tech school. This is hands on PLC training for allen bradly. The instructor does encourage me to learn all I can. I am looking to get my foot in the door as a programmer and i'm noticing you need alot more experience than I have. Mostly 5 years minimum programming with PLC, HMI, and SCADA programs. No doubt I can't learn all of this at once. does anyone have any sugestions on what functions i should learn to help me get my foot in the door? I can't network processors, or use analog equipment. This is just a simple class. Any input will help alot. If you need more information please ask.
