Don't give up that easy. You should really check out Wonderwares Rapid Protocol Modeler Toolkit. It looks like it will do exactly what you want.

This help any? Or This? TCP/IP Have you used the Rapid Protocol Modeler Toolkit that comes with wonderware? I haven't, but the name sounds promising......

I have to agree with this one. But why? Is it because it doesn't pose much of a challenge? I think it does. Is it because most people are ignorant about how their goods are manufactured? I just don't understand this one. Also, they may not be after the controls world but, something they do may effect the controls world. Like the afforementioned Blaster Worm. I know that wasn't meant for us but, it did effect us. I was just about to think up a bunch of scenarios which would probably bore you guys to tears. But think of it this way. Would you rather be proactive or retroactive? You have spent millions of dollars and tons of engineering to design and build a control system and a piece of equipment. You have tried to eleminate or mitigate every variable outside your control. Why would you not want to eliminate this one? Is it because, like the hackers, you are ignorant to what they are capable of? Or is it because you don't care? Or have you implimented proper controls to protect your systems (PLC and PC)? Which one would sound better to you boss as you try to explain yourself after a major failure? Almost forgot... Here are some "security laws" from microsoft. Try using PLC in the place of computer. ( I find it kinda ironic that these came from microsoft )

I know it's a little late but..... If there are any analog cards in that rack, check for a shorted loop. I konw it sounds strange but I had about a weeks worth of trouble with a 140CPU534 14 because of it. It would run fine for a while, then poof, nothing. The analog cards were in the cpu rack. I couldn't even connect to the cpu.

Selecting ethernet switches for process control network
Camel replied to wildswing's topic in Computer Help and Networking
If your plant uses Cisco managed switches everywhere else, then I would suggest Cisco. Cisco switches do alot more than meets the eye...... It's not just a matter of "These switches work good and their cheep". There is alot going on that you don't see. Network devices like switches and hubs don't simply recieve a packet and send a packet. Next, do you want a hub or a switch. A lot of people don't know there is a difference (google it). -
You could just make a couple batch (*.bat) files with notepad with some IP config commands. Easy and Free!!

I was working on an GE Fanuc controlled NC machine the other day and found it had an error I could not find in the manual. OH002 Fun motor error. That is exactly what it said. Has anyone else seen this? It turned out to be one of the fans in the rack and was easily replaced.

I work for a company called SGL Carbon . We make electrodes for electric arc furnaces. We have a lot of AB controllers, one honeywell and a pair of ge cnc controllers.

I notice that there are almost zero posts about Concept or Unity. Why is this. Are they not used that much? Does anyone else use them? This is all we use. Soon we will not even use concept. We actually assisted schnieder electric with the live field test of unity not too long ago and i thought it was a great program.

AutoCAD Electrical has GE I/O cards.

LONG: Q for Canadians re: salary surveys + "what am I worth?"
Camel replied to wildswing's topic in General Topics - The Lounge
WOW!! He (wildswing) almost nailed my job description to a tee. The only difference is I train all the electricians and electronics guys here (10), and I do upkeep on an entire division of my company. You guys are talking about getting paid 50-55k!! With overtime I might make the mid 30's. I need to move north...... -

-
My first question would be, "Is that legal?"
-
Oh..... That explains it. We don't use any softstarts that small. Why do you have a soft start on a 30 horse motor?
-
WOW!!! You only pay 500 bucks for a rebuild!!!! What size motors are they on?
-
We use motortronics but they have controls. You can't just rebuild that one??

I prefer my weapon of mass destruction..... But I think snoopy is pretty cool too.....

I want them because I was looking at a decompiled unity OS and it used some commands I have never seen before and I was curious as to what they where.

Anyone know what kind of processor this has in it? I think it is pentium based. Does that make it an IA-32?? Thanks

If you just want to "play around" with some web stuff you could try XAMPP . It is a windows (or linux) installer that installs a web server (apache), a couple of programming languages and interpreters (PHP and Perl), a database server (MySQL), and much more if you want it. That way you could play around with it on your own computer and not have to pay anyone unless you want to.

Get a hosting package on a linux box. That way it supports anything your little heart desires. Here is one I have used before. Thinking about making yourself a million dollar home page eh? Check this out. That guy sold on million pixels at 1 dollar each.

We have a 671 (I think). Thats the two slot with a built in NOE, 2 PCMCIA (cardbus) slots, and usb ports. Do you know if I can get the software developers manuals for those processors off of intels site?
