  1. RS485 to RS232 to USB

The reason I asked this question was that someone purchased a Keyspan last week from me.... It was shipped to Bin95... it may have been one of your employees, but just wondering how it did in comparison to the Belkin ? I have used them on every PLC (that I have) and other applications, even set one to Jean (across the pond) to test it on Siemens CPU's... they have never failed, not to say that the Belkin would. I started selling them because Ken spoke of them highly, like the old TV commercial "when EF Hutton talks people listen" remove EF Hutton and insert Ken
  2. RS485 to RS232 to USB

Hey Nathan, Mitsubishi Q Series PLC's uses a standard USB cable... I still sell the RS232 to people (not a lot) As far as the knowledge base.... look at my website (I am up to 17 different AB cables) or look at Chris's (click on the Shop link above) I think we have them covered
  3. RS485 to RS232 to USB

How do you like the Keyspan (USA-HS19) ??? Mark
  4. I posted this on plctalk but I also wanted to pass it on to everyone that only hangs out here :) Just thought I would pass on a little info... Ron Dorans website http://www.patchn.com/ is up and running it has been transferred over to Tim (TWControls) and with the help of Phil and others the site will live on... For a few reasons 1st to honor the memory of Ron and also to preserve the hard work and the ton of information that he put into and on the website. Also on the forums http://www.patchn.com/SMF/ under discussions there is a thread to come up with a logo for the site this will also honor his memory. For anyone that has not registered the, registration is open again and everyone/anyone is welcome. Mark

  6. help with cables please

Hi guys, I have read Jay's and others post also opened the pdf with the pinout of the cables...but I still have a question If someone was trying to connect to an C200H and they had a C200H-LK201, would they need the C200HS-CN200-EU ?? It looks like they could use this but its a 9pin and it looks like the C200H-LK201 can also come in a 25 pin?? I think he has a 9pin on the PC and is trying to connect to the 25pin if this is the case he need to buy the C500-CN221-EU.... am I correct? Can he get a 9 to 25 pin and make his work?? Thanks Mark

I saw this one HERE but whats out there for a good price, remember I don't have an application (yet) I just want to learn it. Has any one use Kontron? Thanks Mark
  8. Kontron ThinkIO

Thanks!! Just what I needed... I will be back for some programming advice after it comes in and I had a chance to really screw it up :) Mark
  9. Kontron ThinkIO

Thanks Tony, Looks good but not much information about it on the site, I'll get a hold of my Turck rep and see if he has any more information Mark
  10. OT: Accounting and Quick Books Pro Software

I may have done it the wrong way but... I just opened the check register and used the drop down arrow then selected "Partner One Equity", not sure if thats the correct way (EDIT: I also use Simple Start not Pro) What you get paid??? I thought I was only to pump money in... at what point will it go the other way? Let me answer that, Chris has been doing this for years... and he is still "investing money into the company" sure we can call it that :)
  11. RSview32 or Rslogix Phone Call

I have installed several... they are great
  12. Watch out for Dell Laptops and Wonderware.

I have sold many and have not ever had one not work or returned, these are recommended by Allen Bradley, I have used them with several different types of PLCs and other applications I have been working on a dos6.2 project that I am still going to try it on when I get time, if it works... I will update
  13. Watch out for Dell Laptops and Wonderware.

Great....Now my USB adapter sales will drop....
  14. Importance Education in Automation?

This is what I strived for.... I first saw it 15ish years ago, was a person came in an troubleshot a piece of equipment they new exactly nothing about, not even the name of it. But they were smart enough to figure it out, I think it had a lot to do with experience, but they also had to have a combination of education and street smarts. I wanted to be that person, to be able to walk up and repair something (that others could not) no matter how in depth the issue was and repair it back to a normal working state or even better. I saw one person, walk up and program a motion controller with out knowing anything about the software, I am sure Peter could as well, but I still enjoyed seeing him download the manual at 8:00 am (as I was wiring the panel) then by 3:00 that afternoon it was running, that also included the PLC program. My point is some of this stuff we all deal with can not be taught, troubleshooting is my primary job and it is also one of the hardest things to teach. I get more out of crash courses, one or two weeks, but I applaud any education.
  15. I know that the majority of us do our own control work and rarely have to ask for help, but if you ever need a hand or want to shorten your learning curve, then this is for you. So, not sure if he's offering his services or not (may be too busy), but I can recommend TWControls as one of the best in our industry. We spent yesterday installing a Controllogix with Ethernet/RIO/DH+ running a 13slot 504 via RIO. Long day but everything is running great, I could not have been happier with his professional attitude, his vast knowledge and willingness to teach. Thanks Tim… Mark
  16. Steve, that is a very good idea Ron, I have a few names for the local AB guys in SC for you to contact, I don't recommend spam....but I am on a mailing list that has 100ish local AB users (local in Columbia area) Personally I would not mind getting a email from you, I don't think others would either if you added some 'how to' content, I would read it and may go to your school or send you some clients, but since I already know you and your teaching ability I will send more your way, my point is I would not consider it spam if I got a email from you if I did not know you if it had good content. You should think about a news letter and a mailing list, once a month send a email with a targeting topic, this would also keep you in the minds of the people on the mailing list I think we both should look to Chris for marketing outlook, search anything to do with PLC's on the internet...MrPLC.com will be on the first page, nice job Chris If you do a news letter the first month RIO/DH+ for CLX would be very good topic You could also a link to another website in your letter if you wanted to {wink-wink}
  17. Hi Ron, Try http://www.statcounter.com for (free) data feed back for your website, its free and you can get loads of data from it There are several good threads that have some good reading material (when you get time, I know you are short) and I have several links to some good SEO websites, you need to get listed on Google if you have not done it yet, they have a waiting period of 6 months before you are 'truly' listed with them Register with Tim on his new idea if/when he gets it up and running, that's going to be a good one… We are going to be increasing our maintenance staff by 50% and training was a large topic (I will be in touch) meetings the last 2 weeks These are both good threads http://forums.mrplc.com/index.php?showtopic=9467 http://www.plctalk.net/qanda/showthread.php?t=26561 Register here http://www.google.com/webmasters/ http://www.siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ SEO (search engine optimization) http://www.webworkshop.net/ http://www.highrankings.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=833 I have just started my own and I am learning more and more every day, it's a blast!, thanks to Tim its been a good experience, I think if you provide a good service as you do (you can tell by your reputation) you will go far. Good luck, hold on tight and have fun.
  18. Motor Control Design Question

Hi Bob, (and others) I would measure SCFM, I do this on several applications, a simple piot tube and a calculation in the plc would give you your SCFM, it's very accurate and dependable parts used: Dwyer 607-3 or Ashcroft XL-3-F02-42-ST-1IW <----- the Dwyer is made by Ashcroft Comptus track-mount barometric transmitter This is the code that I used, its on a 504, we tested it against several hand held calibrators and it was very good, I display it on a HMI and also use it to control fan speed EDIT: You will not need rungs 1-3, this is my HX, also you may need two transmitters to get your range that you are looking for or not... I run from 0-45"WC
  19. Directsoft32 instructions similar to RSLogix 500

Have'nt been around much, so this might be late....but this is how I have done it, there are several ways that it can be done You start your timer with c50, then set ta25 to your value, you would have to add more logic to make it better but I think you can get the idea...
  20. Directsoft32 instructions similar to RSLogix 500

Sure, Make sure you go to Bernie's site there is some very good information on it also check out AD's forum
  21. Directsoft32 instructions similar to RSLogix 500

Hello Mad1, Spend the money and buy the manual, I am not just being a smart a$$, their manuals are very good, or you can down load it for free, but... B3:x/x----C Look at these they are the same (I think)
  22. SCADA POLL

So I have been trying a few different ones, in the not so distant past.... I voted AB just because I know it and can play with it But this is my review... RSView: Very good, Pro's...easy to use and configure, Con's...Non AB PLCs are/can be a pain to get set up, Web NOT included, I just spec out a machine and requested it as the HMI software and CompactLogix as the PLC Wonderware: Good, Pro's...easy to use and configure and a good selection of PLC's are in the drivers, Con's...Not many, good package just like View better Indusoft: Good, Pro's...easy to configure, Free 40 hr trial, Web included, good price, just got it last week so I will up date later if the finished product is good....37hrs left IFix: I hate it...But its a old version 2.5 Opto22: Good support, not the easiest one to use, I have only used with opto server's and opto i/o's so I can't comment on if it would work with other PLC (if you consider opto a PLC)
  23. Data acquisition via PDA

Hey <---(southern for hello or hi, for all you northern boys) Ken, Depending on your funding, you could do several things, a portable PC with a VB application, if you wanted to roll your own Look at these two sites they have some good options but again, if you have the money, you can get anything http://www.scadalliance.com/en/products/handheld.shtml <--- I like these http://www.scanplanet.com/
  24. visual basic

Here are a few good sites that I use... http://www.xtremevbtalk.com/index.php http://www.codeproject.com/ and MS's site http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vbasic/default.aspx
  25. Plc's Fuzzic Logic

I agree that temperature and motion/hydraulics controls are not the same and also that Honeywell is one of, if not the best on controllers, I have many (100's) and I have been very satisfied with their product I think one of the reasons that the WAG theory has worked for me is, I have the time to watch the process, by attaching my meter and watching what the controller is doing vs the PV, if I over shoot by 5deg not a big deal, I can adjust it out and the next time around I will get a better response But when it comes to my hydraulics or motion, I tend to watch my step, it can be a devastating if you dont watch what you are doing, high pressures on my presses are over 900000 pounds of force, to me this is a lot With Honeywell's fuzzylogic that Dan posted there are other ways that it can be accomplished, such as limiting the valve, or setting other variables in the PLC As far as Honeywell's Profit Loop, I do like where manufactures are heading...helping us do our jobs better
