  1. PLC Learning

@alexp94 Tim Wilborne has a youtube channel that covers a few PLC related topics, the link is below:  Tim Wilborne YouTube Link
  2. I picked up a StarTech RS232 to Ethernet Extender hoping to extend the signal to a building where I our switchgear is. I haven't had much luck considering IT has practically ever laptop a technician uses locked down. I've been using my personal laptop as a means of trying to figure out how to get this extender to work properly. I have had no luck thus far. I'm now just limited to using the original programming cable I've been using for the last 3 years and be right in front of the RTU rather than somewhere else. I'm not entirely sure this StarTech extender would work with the programming cable. Do any of you have any experience dealing with these particular extender's    Maybe soon our liftstation's with MDS radios will be updated to RV50 cellular modems, so that I can remote into a PLC without the need of a physical programming cable.
  3. @DanW I appreciate your advice on the area. It has been very helpful @chelton The same goes for you...  Thank you
  4. Good morning,  I work as an electronics technician for wastewater treatment and lift stations. We have quite a few RTU's that house a MicroLogix 1200. While I can remotely connect to the MicroLogix 1400's the same can not be said for the MicroLogix 1200's. If a problem occurs at a lift station with the 1200's then I have to connect locally to the 1200 via a 2711-NC21 where one end has a S-video type connector and the other end has a 9-pin serial end with a null modem attachment. I have heard that the maximum distance one can get from a 1200 via a programming/interface cable is 50'. However, there are a few particular RTU's at varous lift stations that are further away than that 50' threshold. Is there any possible way I could exceed this limitation with some kind of interface type device that will take that serial connection and bridge it into another format like bluetooth, LAN, or usb ? I'm really trying to avoid having to be at the mercy of the 6' cable connected to the 1200. There's 1 lift station I can think of where the RTU is probably 60 feet away from the MCC room where the pumps and pump controls are at.
  5. License for RSLogix 500

I was hoping that would not be the case, but thank you for your input.
  6. License for RSLogix 500

I knew I noticed that name - I appreciate all the knowledge your YouTube channel provides. I can not get enough of those videos.
  7. License for RSLogix 500

** Update **  Pictures help everyone
  8. License for RSLogix 500

A majority of the PLCs we have at lift stations are either MicroLogix 1200s or MicroLogix 1400's. We have mixed variety here at the wastewater treatment plant. We have some SLC 5's, PLC 5's, and 1 or 2 ControlLogix's. I've been going through all of our saved programs trying to sort what's what...I came across this RSS file, open it - expect it to open just like any other file that points to version 9.00.00. I get a message telling me it needs a higher version. I went to the Rockwell Automation Downloads portion of the website. I went through the entire spill of trying to grab the RSLogix 500 software. The latest I could download according to a serial number entry was 9.00.00. The drop down box would not allow me to go any higher.
  9. I have an activation certificate for RSLogix 500 Offline/Online Programming Software, Ver. 9.00.00. I have the software activated, but one of the programs I am trying to look over is telling me that I need a higher version to go any further. Is it possible that I can download a higher version - say 12.00.01 and use the same serial I would for version 9.00.00 ?
  10. It was purely by happenstance that I was able to rename that 63 to whatever number I wanted. As far as I can remember, I do not have an IP associated with .63 anyhow. That IP address seems to be an open address anyhow.
  11. Does anyone know how to delete the row labeled as, "63 - station number" and "Driver - Host Name". Our IPs range from .50 - .90, I would like to associate the station with an IP that correlates to one another.     For example, Station 50 = xx.xxx.x.50, Station 51 = xx.xxx.x.51, etc However, when I go to add a station 63. I get the error dialog that tells me 63 can not be added because it already exist. I have had this problem in the past, but never got around to wanting to figure out how to solve it.    ** Jumped the gun ** (modified)  You can rename 63 to whatever number you choose it to be....
  12. @pturmel I was hoping to be able to remote into these PLCs that use GE MDS radios to communicate information back and forth, but I have not been able to find a work around other than throwing in some Verizon RV50 cell modems. I was hoping there was a way to do so, but my answer seems to be already answered by you and a few others I've spoke to as well.

  14. Good Morning,   My name is Joseph Rhodes, I work as an electronic technician for the City of Tuscaloosa at the wastewater treatment plant. I work to keep the plant up and running as well as 64 lift stations spread out around Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A majority of our lift stations utilize Verizon Cell Modems, RV50s to be exact. It's rather easy connecting remotely to these lift stations as I can configure a driver as an ethernet / ip driver then associate an IP of that lift station (ex. 10.181.3.104 is lift station 104, 10.181.3.105 is lift station 105, etc). However, for the lift stations that do not utilize cell modems. We use GE MDS 9710 and 9810 radios. It is these lift stations that I have yet to figure out a way to connect remotely to the LS RTU PLC. All of our lift stations use Allen Bradley MicroLogix 1200s or 1400s. These lift stations that use the MDS radios communicate information to water tanks then that information is sent back through other channels. I was wondering is there a way to associate these lift stations on RSLinx that use GE MDS radios ?
