  1. PLC-2 Assistance

You have to have the PLC-2 Software which is no longer available. Please PM me a email address and I will convert to pdf
  2. A-B PLC2 wih PCMK card

The cable that the tech was probably using is the serial port version. Having a powered cable tells me that. Using the PCMK You will need to modify your config.sys and autoexec.bat files to load the pcmk into memory. You have to setup extended memory and dedicate to PCMK. I haven't had to do that in a while, but I am sure someone on this forum has the link for the knowledge base that references this. If you have no luck I will dust off the old laptop and help. One Tip. load all of you files in autoexec.bat and config.sys the startup the computer in dos mode. Don't go to windows as this is just a waste of time. There is a disk that came with the PCMK card and it has all the drivers and I think a decent read me file good luck, I am currently swamped, but if you need help quicker, send me a email and we can talk in more detail, I have two quotes in front of me now that has major prority, just taking a break and catching up on some MRPLC forum reading Phil Howell Industrial Controls & Electronics Phil.Howell@comcast.net
  3. PLC2 to PDF

I will be glad to help send me a email with your contact info and attach the files you have and I will generate a print out in PDF or convert to excel as long as no Proprietary license are not infringed on. Also, is this for an upgrade or to troubleshoot a running plc2 ? In other words, be more specific on this forum. There are a lot of people that will help you here, But keep in mind the plc-2 has been extinct for a while. You probably will not get much plc-2 support here. (except from me) I have found this forum to be more of ideas, experiences and suggestions, rather that OEM support. BUT THE INFORMATION LEARNED HERE IS PRICELESS, and if you are willing to read, learn and comprehend, Your logic and descriptions will be a easy conversion. here is my contact info Phil Howell Industrial Controls & Electronics phil.howell@comcast.net 706-799-7496
  4. Dead PLC-2/30

Machine Running ....................................... . today . tomorrow ...... etc That's the test, How long will it run? The best advise I could give to anybody (other than safety). is: Will, what you are doing today still be logically logical in the future no matter the advance in software and/or equipment. Thanks for all the views. I still would be interested in purchasing conversion software just to put in my museum. Thanks everybody!! Phil Howell
  5. Dead PLC-2/30

EVERYTHING on the previous post is spot on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 know double slot well, already revived on 2/30 4 years ago with this same type upgrade. 2 chassis in field 4 racks in program. ???????? It's in the chassis dip switches. What's that tell ya! Plant Managers some times don't listen well. this temporary fix also was a had to run, we will upgraded it later. Ever heard that??? But, they did let me design a Rsview to replace ver. 3.3 intellusion fix Them old plc-2's were and are also tanks. Centrial America has purchased a lot of the plc inventory good they will live on. I still have a bag of them yellow bands
  6. Dead PLC-2/30

Checking back I FOUND THE BACKUP MASTER DISK FIRST BOX I LOOKED IN It was corrupt Started from scratch using the very used laptop with AI software ( licensed to my Father ). 70% instuction description on computer and 100% instuction description on PRINTOUT but no rung descriptions. Notice I highlited PRINTOUT. This printout was the one my Father printed in 1987 and that My Mother inserted into the sheet covers. HOW cool it that. Not only from both of them, but with the missing docs that are not on the laptop. I still have his original 8088 (turbo charged, with the mathcopressor at 12mhz ! ) with the original license 000029 purchased by him of ICOM software with this program on it. I figured it had been in retirement so long it probably wouldn't care to work a major reprogram. I'll let it keep resting. Back to basics. I am licensed with AB. I spoke with the local AB rep, Augusta Ga. Not hard to figure out. And the laptop they had met an untimely death and they are no longer able to convert the programs on the PLC's that made untold machines perform so adrimaly for so long. EVERYBODY TRIED HARD , Thanks AB During the transition of this plant from new owners the Licensed software for PLC-2 to 5 conversion is lost. Allen Bradley support was more than helpful in trying to help me get a updated key disk. Noticed I spelt Allen Bradley and just not use AB is that I have seen the help there equipment has brought into a plant and not just for all of the improvments of the machine itself, but for lives it has touched of operators and there family. I've got to see and witness it first hand and make a good life for my family. I could go on about this for days. Not enough time. At this point, getting the software would just save some typing, but knowing me , I will enjoy every line learning the mentality of the original programmers in 1983 ( German). Found bad habits from rung 1. Rung 1? Yep, rung 1 PLC 2's start at rung 1, not 0. That is with Icom, AI software starts at 0 Little hint, My 23 year old son is entering this code from me as I read down with instructions AND DOCUMENTATION!! Yea! How bout that Daddy. I know the machine anyway, but have never had to do anything but change timer preset. NOT even a bad output. 24volts to my knowledge I am not asking nothing for free. I know this is a forum for PLC discussion. I just trying, NO! I am going to make this machine run this weekend. We have done it to many times I really enjoying reading here. The people here are so free and forthright with there knowledge. Espicially the regulars. That Paulengr is amazing. I admire you all, and we know who you are! I will be happy to purchase a licensed copy of this software from anyone who no longer has a need. Just from the vast history with these plc's and 5's. (and slc's and CL) AB no longer offers it. I also would pay for this conversion. I am just trying the help a plant, a machine, a operator, a family Break over P.S. the 2/30 is going into the museum also Phil Howell Industrial Controls & Electronics Augusta, Ga. 7. Can anyone convert a plc-2 to plc-5? - CANT FIND MASTER DISK Plc-2/30 died today Replacing with 5/40 that is in the demonstrator my Father and I purchased in 1984. The 5/40 is newer and remote i/o to second chassis or some may say rack ( this could be another discussion). This will be the fastest way to get them running this weekend. With Qoutes to replace the whole system. I know lack of planning does not justify an emergency. I had warned the last three plant managers that one day it was going to go off and not start back up. And today was the day. But the plant still needs to make production. only 377 rungs long all digital, no smart cards 2 full chassis with high density cards I haven't used the software in a while and during move lots of stuff got packed away. I can probably just start new and rewrite before I can find MASTER DISK! Software went through two hands and Tech Support couldn't help. UNDERSTANDABLE Thanks for all help, sorry I haven't given my two cents lately to any topic, business has been good and projects abound, God has been good to us!! KUDOS ON THE 2/30 1983/84 - 2009 What great products we use. AB! version of Rslogix is 7.10.02 cpr 7 and I can update online in necessary Starting with Rung 0,,,, now 5:48 pm Phil Howell Industrial Controls & Electronics Augusta, Ga. Phil.Howell@comcast.net
  8. HIM Download and Edit...

Before you get too far long on proper connections. Download is a word that needs to be addressed last. Upload is what you are trying to do. Be careful as Download in Allen Bradley will load whatever you have open/loaded/programmed on your computer software into the HMI or PLC. There are some PLC programmers rules you need to study up on. Someone here can post link to "PLC Laws" http://forums.mrplc.com/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=817 <Link Added by Moderator BobLfoot 2008-10-07> Goodday and GOOD LUCK!!!
  9. Vibration Monitoring

Thank you Again, I will order accelerometer from CTC online. I have two spare analog inputs existing in panel. This should get my feet wet with this particular process. I will post some results and assumptions I make for clarification or a slap on the hand. Training being researched also. Honeywell's web page on Accelerometers http://content.honeywell.com/sensing/senso...elerometers.asp Analyzing the vibration signal from an accelerometer does not always require expensive or complicated analysis equipment. Built in signal conditioning in the model MA15, MA321, and MA322 accelerometers provides a 4-20mA output that is proportional to the RMS vibration value. This built in signal conditioning means that with only a 4-20mA meter hooked up to your accelerometer you can be monitoring vibration, quickly, easily and cheaply. The MA15 provides an output proportional to g vibration, the MA 52 provides an output proportional to velocity vibration levels and the MA 321/322 provides g vibration down to zero hertz. This is a good site and info https://www.ctconline.com/__ctc_university.aspx Best Regards and wishes
  10. Vibration Monitoring

Paulengr, Thank you for the detailed reply, I know in this busy world it's hard for someone to take time to teach others. Everyone here should be grateful to you!! I am. I will take your recommendations and read more. This is what I have, We have had some HVAC air handler units being returned for excessive noise and/or vibrations through the ductwork on new installs. Most of the returned units have had damage to the fan itself, with the blades on the wheels being damaged. After looking at new wheels before the assembly process here we have found new, uninstalled wheels with damaged blades. We are working with OEM of wheels to remedy damaged units from them. There quality control procedure is redundant, but some of the damage may be in shipping. Some of the worse damage may be from installers removing damaged wheel during replacement and subsequent shipping. Some of the units being returned have had bad bearings on motors. Now, after meetingsssssssssssss, we have been asked to build new test stand for running motors and using equipment equilivent with the portable SMC T30 using shock pulse transducer to check bearings. We have been asked to add a stationary unit SMC MG4-12 or equilivent with a vibration transducer to a test stand I built 4-07 with a ML1500 and Rsview32 that is currently checking Hypot and amperage of motor during test of unit on line before packaging and data logging for comparison in the event of a returned unit. There is significant vibration in units with damaged wheels as the water in glass test showed. The AB XM-720 was looked at for cost analysis. To be honest it just popped up during search for Vibration monitoring. I see where the transducers have 4-20ma . And some of your reply tells me I can probably plc to gather info from transducers and do math to come up with a range of acceptable readings during burn in. Correct me if I am wrong. Transducers measuring range is 0 - 25 mm/s and the frequency range 2-1000 Hz. This is where more research on my part is needed. Using Vibration analysis with controls is new to me, but I will accept challenge. The diversity I have seen in the last 25 years doing controls, retro fits and upgrades have been nothing less than amazing. The simple answer to what is wanted, is if a unit has excessive vibration during burn in testing, Flag that unit from test stand. We Not trying to determine real time cause now, just stop units from leaving for install. Thanks again, Hope this helps your understanding of my understanding. Scorn me if needed. None that I have found, However I did forward this to my local AB rep today and I am waiting for a reply . Patiently
  13. Hi all, Using Rsview32 Works with ML1500 on a test stand to data log amperage and Hypot testing on air handler units being made on assembly line. Recently I have been tasked to integrate a vibration analysis to the test stand. We had a demonstration in plant and the links below are of the equipment that has been recommended to me. I currently get a digital signal from Hypot after testing occurs. I am using one of the serial ports on the ML1500 for Rsview connection. The below equipment has Modbus. I may not need all of the info in registers but would be nice if needed. Has anyone out there used this equipment before? Does anyone have or have used similar devices or devices that can accomplish same results? We are looking for a hand held unit for bearing testing on 1/2 to 1 hp ac motors with changeable sensors to use portable unit as backup to test station unit. Needs to interface with AB PLC via modbus, devicenet, etc... I want more info that just a 4-20ma or pass/fail digital output from unit. this is AB vibration analysis http://www.automationworld.com/products-1616 Thanks in advance, Portable unit www.spminstrument.com/products/t30/ Stationary MG4-12 www.spminstrument.com/products/mg4/ P.S. I did make up a temporary FLUID VIBRATION ANALYSIS DETECTOR Yep, I took a glass 1/2 full (or half empty) of water Made a straight line at water line with marker denoting PASS Made a erratic line at water line with marker denoting FAIL Patent pending
  14. DH+ on 1770-KF2

Also, the series A is data highway only(dh485), will not sopport DH+. I have two KF-2 series A in my "MUSEUM". and remember they would not work DH+.
  15. Fiber Optic to PLC

Thank you so much. I have done alot of research lately and have learned a great deal. This really helps. We have to connect this to existing utility poles and cross a highway. I am going to have a hardwire cable for a backup if a limb falls and severes fiber optic cable. I will look for the best unit for a quick change from fiber to wires. I don't believe wireless will work as we have a substantial drop in elevation and lots of pine trees. I may try a unit anyway, there relatively inexpensive and worth the learning. Again , Thank you and happy programming!
