We have some machinery using 5/03 units, these connect via 9pin port to aic units, which in turn connect to hmi and remote programming port /9pin d. the port setting is dh485 .
With our older laptops, we used to connect to the remote programming plug with ab cable cp3 from com 1 on laptop.using the pic driver.
Since getting newer laptops on xp, there is no option of pic driver what do I select to connect via com 1?
I can connect to rj45 port on 5/03 using usb adaptor ,but would like to know how to connect to 5/o3 units 9 pin plugs where they are set as 485 rather than df1 full duplex. what driver and settings should I be using
thanks

You should use of the 1747-PIC/AIC driver in rslinx with CP3 cable & Rs232 DF1 driver use with UIC when CH0 is configured for DH485 Protocal
TWControls
If you are using a USB to serial adaptor the 1747-PIC will not work. You must use the 1747-UIC. It is a USB to DH-485 adaptor. It will connect to RS-232 or RS485

In response to the first reply I no longer have pic driver as an option in rslinx , I used this on my old machine and connected via com1

Does your laptop have a real serial port?

yes

You must run RsLinx as an application and not as a service like it is normally ran.

thanks for the help ill keep my old laptop for the odd occasion i need to connect

You can do it with XP but in the long run you need to get a 1747-UIC. It isn't very expensive.

Upgrade RSLinx to the latest version and you will have the PIC driver.
