What is the max distance you can have a panel view 600 or 1000 away from the cpu (SLC 5/03) with DF1 communication.
DF1 is a protocol that uses RS232 hardware so what is the limit of RS232. Conventional Wisdom would say 15 Meter or 50 Feet. Some Cable suppliers claim more and there are extenders, but these have drawbacks as well as benefits.QUOTE(Noely @ Oct 4 2006, 03:52 AM)
Also I have a application where a PC with two programs running on it are communicating via ethernet with a slc 5/05 processor. One of the programs is RS View, i don't know what the other one is. Can I connect a panel view 1000 through ethernet to the same processor without causing any problems to the speed of communication between the pc and the plc and if i can what do I need to do it.
The SLC 5/05 supports multiple Ethernet Devices connected to a single CPU. To connect an Ethernet PV to an SLC you simply need to connect the hardare and program the PV.
Will this affect the communication speed between your PC and PLC? That Depends on a lot of variables. The SLC 5/05 has a limited window in which to perform communications. If the extra data consumed by the PV does not exceed that window then NO.
But I would lean towards Yes you will loose some responsiveness.
