Hi,

I just wondering what type of processor chip used for the AB Logix5555 (Control Logix Processor). Is it ARM processor? Because I saw there is "Philips" logo with "ARM" characters on the chips when opened up the Logix5555 cover.

Please share if you know about it. Thanks.

The main CPU on a ControlLogix is a custom application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) that A-B has built specifically for the controller. High temperature and vibration specs on the packaging, and optimized for boolean operations (traditional CPU's would be very busy masking). I actually never really looked at whose label is on the plastic but I guess it's Philips. Couldn't very well have Infineon making them, could we ?

The guts of of that chip are a closely guarded trade secret. Most A-B employees (including me) do not have any access to the low-level details of the controller. You get code names thrown around so you can tell the difference between the chip implementations (there are mid-range and high-performance versions) but no details.

One of those big chips is the backplane interface controller and the other one is the logic solver.
