is it right that to run an HMI program on a pc we should have an OPC Server and an OPC Client on that pc?. does the I/O server represent the OPC server and the HMI program(Wonderware or any other) represent the OPC client?

Sounds about right. The client doesn't have to be on the same computer as the Server though.
