I've been reading the posts below about having your plc call you and also connecting to your plc from home. I'm pretty new to programming and am asking for assistance. I have been thinking about trying to set up a plc set up where the plc would contact me in an emergency. What I would like to do is use a slc(really any processor, havent bought it yet). I already have rslogix500 and linx. Not sure about versions. What I am looking for is: When one of our boilers trips out on alarm or a kiln trips out have it contact me. Now when I say contact me here our my options. The building with the plc has a landline phone. Could I have it call me at home? If it calls me-what does it do. I have a cell phone. Should I have it call me or text me? Can I have it tell me particular codes or something as to tell me the problem to decide how urgent the problem is? Can I have it contact more than one phone? I want to shy away from email if possible because I dont check mine a lot. But, could it contact me and then maybe email me the problem? I know that is a lot of questions and any help is greatly appreciated. Also, other than the software I already have what else will I need? Oh yeah, I forgot to metion there will also be a pc connected to the plc unless there is a way I can do it without it. thanks.
Have you read this?
http://www.mrplc.com/kb/index.php?page=index_v2&id=67&c=12Now granted, the PLC won't "speak" in my application, and my article keeps getting shot down because there are devices off the shelf you can buy now that do this same thing.
What people don't realize is the lesson you learn when you do something on your own, and it didn't cost any money because you already have all the parts....
So which ever way you decide to go, let us know. We can help either way. I am sure others will post links to products that even speak, I think you can record your voice in four or eight alarms so when it does alarm, the device will play back your message you pre-recorded into it. With my above article, I couldn't figure out how to load a voice message into an N7 register.....
