Full Version: 1747-PIC Equivalent

Attention: To All

Once I had an interface converter (1747-PIC) for Allen-Bradley SLC5/01 PLC. But it was broken due to my students' fault. I can't fix it till now. I have decided to replace it with an easy-2-use RS485 converter. There is a problem with "EN" signal for transmission (PIN 5 of RJ45 connector at SLC side). I think it is driven by RTS signal from RSLinx. Please kindly let me know the solutions as withstupid.gif

Best regards

Pardon me chakorules,

I have no chance to purchase online from any shop. So I have constructed the converter myself and tested it with RSLinx v2.3 and SLC5/01. It works well and no demage is made by converter at both PC and PLC sides. It is designed using RS232 and RS485 ICs. If someone needs help, ask me the schematic.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

I would like to see it! I bought an "aftermarket replacement" PIC on ebay a while back, but I wanted to improve upon the design a little. (For starters, I would like the PC board enclosure to have DB9 and RJ45 connectors so that I could replace the cables when the get damaged and also experiment with different lengths)

As it turns out, the board is all surface-mount, which has deterred my feeble experimentation attempts so far :)

You might want to upgrade to RS Linx 2.42 if you are using Windows 2000 or XP.

See this rockwell note:

Because I don't know much about legal rights for properties. Any way here is the schematic and use it wisely at your own risk. It is intended only for private usage but not for sale.

Good Luck!

Here is again an alternative schematic. Both design work well with RSLogix and SLC5/01.

I was able to open both attachements - very close to the original.
Except RTS -Enable line must be open collector to work correctly on DH485 network.
