A 1770-KF2 is for RS232 to DH+ interface.
For RS232 to DH485 interface, you would use a 1770-KF3

Gerry,
Right you are ,I didn't pick up on that. For some reason I thought he had two things going on.

DH - Data Highway (the original)
DH+ - Data Highway Plus - very similar to DH but optimised for less than 16 nodes
These two operate over "blue hose" at 57.6Kb
DH485 - similar protocol to DH/DH+ but over a different physical medium and at lower speed (initially dubbed "data dirt road")
Your KF2 won't work with DH485

I thought data sidewalk was an early name for devicenet.

Never heard that term applied to Devicenet.. Acutally I think "Data Sidewalk" in reference to DH485 was actually coined by ICOM many years ago. I want to say you can find it mentioned in WinLinx..
