I have an .rss file that was created on an old version of RSlogix500(probably version 1 or 2, its about 8 years old) I now have version 6.3, and it will not read my archived file, what I found on the rockwell site was that it needed to be opened with version 4 and re-saved. Is there any other way around this?

Wow, that kinda sucks. Can you give us a link to that Knowledgebase article? (does it basically say "sorry, you're screwed"?)

I'm assuming that if you had an old version of Logix 500, it could be opened and the descriptions extracted to an importable file... I think I have a copy of version 2 around, let me know if you'd like me to try to do something with your RSS file. (or if you want it so you can try it yourself)

I have a copy of 4.5, post your file, and I'll see if I can open it.

Well....
Tried opening your file with version 4.5, didn't work. So, that got me interested, then I uninstalled 4.5 and installed 2.57. Couldn't open the file with 2.57 either. I'm afraid you will have to contact AB with this one.

When I first highlight the file under RSLogix, it says it's a 542B OS401 PLC, revision 233, so it's a logix file for sure. Maybe you need something older than 2.57 to open it.

Good Luck,

Thanks for trying, I think it started out in version 1, I believe it was when RSlogix first came out that the programming was done, anyway it's probably simpler to ask the question that I was trying to find the answer to in the file, I'm trying to help one of my colleges having trouble with reading data from a 1794-IE8 (8 in analog) module over remote I/O via the block transfers, I seem to remeber having to do something that didn't agree with the A/B manual when configuring the module with the intial BTW. unfortunately (or fortunately) I haven't had to deal with one since this old project.

Thanks for the help

Hmm.. the app note says version 4 should open the file. What is your confidence level that the file is not corrupted?

I think I have ver. 2.00 somewhere. I will see if that opens it.

I tried it with 2.00.57, and got the same error. "Unexpected file format". I think, unfortunately, you have a corrupted file. Hopefully you can uncover another copy of it somewhere, or if all else fails atleast find a printout!

ok thanx!

Yeah, I think the file is probably corrupt, I have a print out somewhere, but it's precommissioning version.

Thank again for the efforts

I removed the file post so it is not wasting space on the board,

Thanks again for the help.
