i'm planning to install a 1747-sn in my local slc-5/04 local chassis. I will add a new remote 13 slot chassis with 1447-asb. I will use 9 slot on the 13. My question is can i leave some free slot between some for future usage?
example (1 slot adressing)
slot 0 = 1747-ASB
slot 1 = 1746-NI8
slot 2 = 1746-NI8
slot 3 = 1746-NO4I
slot 4 = spare for future
slot 5 = 1746-IB32
slot 6 = 1746-OB32E
slot 7 = spare for future
slot 8 = 1746-IA16
slot 9 = spare for future
slot 10 = 1746-OA16
slot 11 = 1746-OA16
slot 12 = spare for future

or should i do something like that?

slot 0 = 1747-ASB
slot 1 = 1746-NI8
slot 2 = 1746-NI8
slot 3 = 1746-NO4I
slot 4 = 1746-IA16
slot 5 = 1746-IB32
slot 6 = 1746-OB32E
slot 7 = 1746-OA16
slot 8 = 1746-OA16
slot 9 = spare for future
slot 10 = spare for future
slot 11 = spare for future
slot 12 = spare for future

Thank you very much

Greetings chriswell,

and welcome to the forum ...

certainly you can leave empty slots for future use ... no problem ...

going just a little bit further ... are you aware that you can "splice" two chassis together without using the SN-ASB method? ... I've run into several cases in the past where a simpler (and much less expensive) "Chassis Interconnect Cable" could have been used ... of course both of the chassis need to be REALLY close together for this to work ... but if you've never heard of this approach, have a look at page 6-12 in this manual and take it from there ...

Hi

There is already 3 local racks configured and there's only 2 slot available in the last rack. Thank you smile.gif

If i leave some spares between,in the same adapter rack, how the scanner manage in that case. ? Is my question clear? wacko.gif

when you install the 1747-SN module, it will automatically create 32 words in your Input Table ... AND ... 32 words in your Output Table ...

for example: if you plug the SN scanner into slot number 4 of your PROCESSOR’S local chassis, then words I:4.0 through I:4.31 will be created on the Input Table ... and words O:4.0 through O:4.31 will be created on the Output Table ...

if you leave empty slots anywhere within that range, then the words will still exist on the tables ... but the addresses in those particular words will just not be used by your program ...

page C-1 [Adobe Reader page 127 of 171] in this manual might help with these concepts ...
