Maybe you can look at first How to Connect to an Allen Bradley Micrologix 1500 using RS-232 (DF1) in AB articles tutorials!

Which model of AB Plc are you using? Some models do not support on line editing.
Early SLC's, and ML1000, 1200, 1500 do not have on line editing.

You must have used telepathy to figure out that he has a micrologix 1500 and is attempting to connect using DF1

yes it is true !
no online edits with micrologix !
but with PLC5 and RS5000, it is possible !
you should editing, testing and compiling.
it take a little time !
not that simple like Modicon "Modsoft" or Edit mode of Mitsubishi "GX developper"
but after, it is easy for everybody
