As you already have RSView and you are having a local area network, the simplest way to view you data remotely is to use the RSView Active Display System (ADS)(used to be called RAD). This leaves you existing RSView system as the server, your new PC on your LAN becomes the client, however you cannot edit existing graphics etc on the client, only on the server currently. The RAD server can only run on Windows 2000, NT or XP, not win 9x.
This option is generally cheaper than a seperate RSView32 package running alongside the existing.

It's not clear from the first post what software is on the existing PC - RSLogix 5 or RSView or both.
However, installing ADS/RAD won't get you remote programming capability on the 5/40.

You will no doubt have RSLinx (and a KT) on the existing PC. Upgrade that to the Gateway version and you will be able to access the DH+ from anywhere on the LAN. If you install the RSLogix and RSView activations on a network-shared drive, then you can install and run the s/w on multiple PC's...BUT....only one at a time.
