I have a PLC 5/11 series E that will go into fault mode. During this fault, I can not establish communication with the PLC to view the fault and troubleshoot or clear it. The only option I have is a complete power down and restart. This clears the fault and allows communication with the PLC again. Any one with any thoughts on how to continue??

Thanks
joseph
how are you communicating?

how often does this happen? ... during what conditions does this happen? ... does your system use a "memory module" (EEPROM)? ... do you have an extra power supply that you could substitute into the system? ... does your system include a UPS? ... if so, how expensive was the UPS? ... hint: a cheap UPS can be worse than none at all ... does your system use a "surge suppression" device on the PLC's line power? ... when the system faults out, what are the LED's on the front of the processor doing? ... has the system been running ok for a long time and suddenly started acting this way? ... or has it been acting up since it was first brought on line? ... what troubleshooting steps have you already taken? ... is this a production (money making) system or something that you use for training? ... and anything else that you can tell us about the system? ...

best regards,
Ron
