Full Version: Step5 reference error

I don't have much PLC experience yet (just teaching myself) and I'm stuck on a problem.

I've uploaded a programme to my PC from a SIEMENS S5-95U and I'm using Step 5 v6.5 to view it. When I try to view the XRF file (which I assume stands for cross-reference?) for any of the operands I get the following error message:

"Ref file ??????NI is being loaded!", and a pop-up window saying "File does not exist".

What is confusing me though, is that I recently uploaded a similar programme from an S5-90U using the same software and it worked fine. I've tried reinstalling Step5 but it doesn't help. I can't do what I want to do unless I can track quite a few flags through the programme (which is pretty big!).

Is the cross reference file something that should just come with the PLC programme? Can I create a new one? Thanks

I'm presuming that in the S5 window you have tried drop down 'Management', 'Make Xref' <F5>, this should create a xref file.

If there is an existing cross reference in your program folder I believe it should take the form @@@@@@xr.ini. It will not load from the plc it has to be compiled from the program file on your pc.

Yes, I had tried that, though it turns out (was answered on a different forum) that the version of Step5 I had was not complete so I've got an updated version and it now works. Thanks!
