Is it possible to run RSEmulate on one computer and run Wonderware on another computer and have the two communicate to each other over a router? I understand that RSEmulate must run on the virtual backplane driver but how does it broadcast this information over the network. How do I setup the Wonderware computer to see RSEmulate on the other computer?

Thanks

You need RS-Linx Gateway on the RSEmulate PC. Then you can use OPC to remotely pull data from the RS-Emulate PLC.

Alternatively I believe you can install a virtual Ethernet card and configure addresses for it separate from the PC. It depends somewhat on whether or not the PC NIC card can properly handle operating in promiscuous mode since the RS-Emulate PC is going to have to have multiple IP addresses for the same Ethernet port (unless you have two NIC cards) and will have to accept/reject packets on the Ethernet port in software instead of hardware. In practice these days, that's not as bad as it sounds because switch-based architectures automatically limit the Ethernet traffic to pretty much only the packets intended for that node anyways.
