Hi,

I have an SLC 5/04 (call this PLC1) that I want to connect to my ControlNet network. I have no spare slots left on the rack. The processor port DH-485 is connected to a1747-AIC Link coupler. This Link coupler is connected to a serial converter (1747-PIC Interface converter) to connect to a panelview. The serial port is not used.

In a panel beside this, there is a SLC 5/04 (call this PLC2) with a ControlNet card instaled. I can go online remotely to this PLC via the ControlNet.

Is there a way that I connect PLC1 to the ControlNet?

Any help would be great.

Thanks, Conor

You can use the DH+ port of you SLC5/04 to connect to a 1756DHRIO card in a four slot ControlLogix chassis. In the same ControlLogix chassis put a 1756-CNB control net card. This will function as a bridge between DH+ and CNET. No CLX processor or Logix5K will be required. I'll assume you have Networx for Cnet.

As you see from your second controller, the way to connect an SLC family processor to a ControlNet network for online monitoring/programming is through a 1747-KFC15 module, which bridges ControlNet to the Channel 0 RS-232 port of the SLC controller.

The 1747-KFC15 module uses the SLC backplane only for power. Since you do not have any empty slots in the SLC1 chassis, you can mount a small chassis for power only nearby, or maybe put the 1747-KFC15 into the SLC1 chassis, then run the serial cable (about 50 ft max) to the SLC1 Channel 0 serial port.
