We have 33 Omron VFD's being networked on RS485 and the VFD's have RJ45 ports for the network connection. Why they can't use screw terminals I'll never understand! Anyway, what is the best way to connect all of the VFD's? Should I use a network patch panel? This would sort of make it a star connection. I don't believe this is recommended for RS485 networks. It's hard to daisy chain the connections on RJ45 ports. Maybe there is a plug in RJ45 splitter available? I haven't seen one. I know you can get them for RJ11.

Just looking for suggestions. BTW the VFD's are mounted in two control panels (16 & 17).

Thanks
Mickey

Mitsubishi part nos:
FR-RJ45-HUB10 ( ten port hub)
FR-CB2-485 (splitter)

Others are available.

One thing to look out for is there may be voltage present on the RJ45 which means you can't use CAT5 patch cables.
(this is true of mitsubishi anyway)

Thanks for the info guys. We just purchased the RJ45 to Screw terminal adapters from B&H as suggested by Mickey. They're perfect for this application!

Thanks again. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif
