Hi,

First of all I'm pretty new to PLC's in general, and even more green with GE Fanuc PLCs. I've used AB a good bit but this is the first time I've tried to do anything with GE.

So here's my problem: I recently got out a GE 90-70 that had been in storage at work for about 10 years I believe. I finally got the PLC all wired up and today I decided to download a small bit of ladder logic to test some of my indicators. When I went to download it gave me an error saying that my firmware was Version 3.4 I believe and that Cimplicity Machine Edition (v4) requires a higher firmware version.
I expected to have this issue, but what I didn't expect was the lack of information about how to go about upgrading.

I spent a great deal of time on GE's website (and a total of 2 hours on hold w/o every speaking to anyone) and could not find anything about upgrading firmware. I did find their firmware download section, but when I tried to sign up for a SSO account it would just give me an error page.

So my question is: Where can I go to download the upgraded firmware and learn what the steps are for installing this firmware?

The PLC is a GE 90-70 with an IC697CPU771.

Thanks in advance,
Cory

With an IC697CPU771 you will need to purchase the upgrade as it consists of two PROM chips which are plugged into the CPU. Order Part number 44A731237-G07 (the -G07 is the latest in GFK-1066_90-70.xls and indicates Rev. 5.03) You should be able to order without the -Gxx and get the latest.
You may want to look into updating your software also as it is now at version 5.90, about to release 6.00.
When looking for technical information or manuals at the GE Fanuc web site please start here: www.gefanuc.com/support

Russ,
Thank you for the quick reply and the advice. I went back to the support website and finally found the information. I don't know how I missed it before.
Thanks again, Cory
