I've used Compact Logix to the 20-COMM-E comm module to a SMC-Flex soft starter with no problems. Has anyone had any luck doing the same yet with a SLC 5/05 over ethernet? With RSLogix5000 all the tag data drops in automatically, yet not sure if the only with with the 5/05 is with messaging.

I do have the option of just hard wiring up the control, but I'm just not an old school kind of guy.

Thanks,
Steve

IF you can do it with the Compactlogix then it should be doable with the SLC 5/05. The trick will be wading thru the stacks of AB manuals to sort out the contructs needed.

The SLC-5/05 is not, has never been, and will never be an I/O scanner on EtherNet/IP.

An SLC-5/05 controller can send MSG instructions to a power control product like an SMC Flex or PowerFlex drive, but it will not be a control connection, and places all the responsibility for speed, error detection, and error recovery on the user's control program.

I strongly recommend using hardwiring for Start and Stop functions when the SLC is the control system, and performing diagnostics and monitoring over the network.

There is a sample code download on this site for controlling PowerFlex 40 drives from an SLC-5/05 controller over Ethernet.

You would have to adapt that to the proper N-files as listed in the 20-COMM-E user manual in the PCCC Object section.

Addendum: WOOT ! 1000 posts, and an official "Propeller Head" !
