Is there a way to reset or change the password level of a LM 90 Micro if you don't have the original password available to you? I am unfamiliar with GE PLC's and any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I have not found anything in the manuals I downloaded yet.

If you want to continue to use the existing program, the answer is no. There is no backdoor password.

If you only want to continue using the hardware, you can clear the memory and download a new program.

I have a 14 point Series 90 Micro in front of me, IC693UAA003, AC in relay out. I removed the plastic cover and then pulled off the top circuit board. That's the one with the six relays, eight SSRs, and all the LEDs. On the board below it, there is a big capacitor labeled CC5. Shorting that out should clear the memory.

Thanks for the info. I assume if I have a backup of the original I can download that to the PLC? Assuming that is the case is it possible to remove the password from the configuration somewhere before I put it back?

If you have a backup copy of the program you should be able to download it, but the password is included in the file so that will just reset to the access level stored in the file.

I was wrong in my earlier comment about no backdoor. The Series 90 Micro manual (GFK-1065F) describes the password reset procedure on page 8-14. You need the Logicmaster master diskette to do it. I don't if it's possible with VersaPro or Machine Edition.

Logicmaster passwords are four-digit hex numbers. When people set passwords they usually use something easy for them to remember. OEMs tend to use things that any of their field service people will be able to remember. Think telephone numbers, street addresses, etc forward or backward.
