Full Version: TopServer CPU Usage

Hi,

Don't know if the Allen-Bradley section of this forum is the correct spot for this, but please bear with me.

I am using Software Toolbox TopServer v4.270.416.0 as a an OPC server for my Archestra AOS's from ControlLogix PLC's. Problem is that the CPU usage of the ServerMain.exe process gets out of hand over time.

Wonderware warns that the CPU usage of an AOS should never exceed 25%. Lately my AOS's have been failing, possibly as a result of an overloaded CPU.

Once you restart TopServer, its all good again. CPU usage has dropped from 80% to 16% as a result of the TopServer restart.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue with TopServer? I am looking for a permanent solution for this, a schedule restart is just not worth it. Is there a newer stable version available?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Adriel
What kind of performance are you requesting from it? (tags/second) I haven't used the TOPServer before to connect to ControlLogix PLC's, but some OPC Servers exhibit that kind of behavior (memory ramping, CPU usage moving up) under high stress situations.

You might want to run Microsoft Perfmon and monitor the process CPU usage and memory usage overnight to see if the problem really happens all the time, or if it gets much worse at specific times.

The version of Topserver(KepserverEx) you are using was released in September of 07 there have been 3 releases since then the last being in February of 09. the new version is V4500.462.0. There were a lot if upgrades made to the server in preperation for the Kepserver for Wonderware release. i know that one of Wonderwares very big concerns is memory management so althought I cannot find any specific entry's in the revision notes for the server or drivers I am sure that Memory leak issues would have been noted and addressed in the testing done by wonderware.

My suggestion is that you udpate to the latest version if you can, it is free and there is not impact to the project configuration or licensing to do this. You should also talk to Software Toolbox.
