Hi,



I have AB DIGITAL INPUT type 1756-IB32/B.

At the moment I want to test this module only ( separate / not connected from CPU ), is working OK or not.

I can put it into the rack because the machine is running, can not be STOPPED.

So, can anyone help me HOW TO TEST this DIGITAL input, especially the PIN OUT DESCRIPTION on the backside ( 4x18 pin ) because I do not know the description of each pinout . Maybe from this backside PINOUT, I can inject the power supply 24Vdc to make active this module then I can TEST this DI one by one OK or NOT.

accessing card through backplane connector is not only total waste of time but also chance to damage it.
get another plc (one that is not controlling critical process and can be powered down) and install the card in.
if you don't have one (maybe another machine etc.) contact your supplier, they should have demo unit in their lab,
so just bring your card to play with it for half an hour...

PANIC's suggestion is an awesome one and is the reason why the "project table" in my office has an SLC5/04 ; PLC 5/40 and CLGX L63 each in a rack wired and usable.

DO NOT test a suspected failed module by plugging it into a running controller chassis.

A few days ago I stopped a controller by plugging in a ten-year-old Ethernet module. The power supply LED actually went out on the 1756-PA72 ! I found a pin that had been smashed in the backplane connector on the 1756-ENET which caused a short circuit, and the power supply protected the rest of the system by shutting down.

Use a test chassis or send the module to Rockwell for repair.
