Hi,

I have multiple versions of RSView ME running on mostly PV+ 1250's. I am very unfamiliar with these panels and applications.

When I tried to recover a failed application, I ran into some version conflicts. I had a .mer file, but it was outdated. When I created a new .mer from the .apa file, I had no idea what version to use and lost all security settings until I got the correct version by trial and error.

From what I see, FactoryTalk View Studio converts your .apa files to version 5 and then you decide what version of .mer to create. I would like to upgrade all my panels to be able to run on v5 .mer files. I really want to standardise and take advantage of the conversion from .mer back to .apa.

How can I go about this without losing security settings?

I said, I am very unfamiliar with all these systems. I know Wonderware backwards, but the AB's are a mystery.

What is involved i.t.o. Windows CE upgrades, firmware upgrades, ME version upgrades on the panels, security migration etc.?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

First of all you must understand the difference between the two files:

The APA file is what gets created in RS View Studio. This is the file that you do all of your work in, such as creating the screens and popups as well as setting up the communications and securities etc....

The MER is the "runtime file" that you see on the panelview and that you are not able to edit....Thats the file you Download or transfer from the computer to the Panelview 1250...

I really don't understand what is meant by standardizing from MER to APA when really what you are really doing is editing the APA file and setting that as your new MER file....by downloading it to your panelview...

Hopefully that helps

What you want to do is update the firmware of the PV+ to the latest firmware available for them.

Take a look at answer ID 30964 at the Knowledgebase at ab.com

Thanks for the Knowledgebase Article.

I really don't want to standardise from .MER to .APA; that is not possible. I want to standardise the ME version in my plant, to all run on major revision 5, i.e. all developed and edited in FactoryTalk View Studio. Should I lose a .APA, I can pull the .MER and recreate the .APA from that runtime file, as is possible with v5.

I want to make sure that when I upgrade to v5, I don't lose any security privileges. It seems that I only need to recreate the account, passwords and access level in the 'Runtime v4.00 and above tab'. Am I right or missing something here?

Thanks,
