I have an application using a 2711C-T6C Panelview Component connected to a Micrologix 1200. I have a program created in FactoryTalk View for a 320x240 display and configured for serial comms. Can I download this program to the Panelview Component display, or must I use the inbuilt software? Is it possible to convert a FactoryTalk View program for use with these new terminals? Can I download it via the serial port?

I am not familiar with the 2711C PanelView component system. Their literature indicates that their GUI development program is built into them. You access the features by Ethernetting into their built in web page.

Here is a link to their literature on A-B's web site...

Something to keep in mind...FactoryTalkView is the development software for PanelViewPlus operator interface terminals (the newer line), while PanelBuilder32 is for the older line of PanelView terminals. Looks you can Ethernet into the PanelView Component units and develop the basic HMI there.

Thanks, yes, I should have added that I am aware the Component range has built in development software and usually downloads through Ethernet or USB. The problem I have is that my existing View program has over 1000 tags used across 20 screen pages and I was hoping to avoid rewriting the whole thing if at all possible.

PanelView Plus and PanelView Component are totally different development and runtime evironments and there is almost no commonality or conversion between them.

PV+ is meant for ControlLogix users, PVc is meant for MicroLogix and SLC users. The onboard editing environment is meant to be a low-power, low-feature, zero-cost way to work on those terminals and makes them fundamentally different. They were even designed by a different division of the company.

Most PVc users are new to A-B HMI terminals, so you're among a small set of users who would benefit from migration tools. So many PV+ features don't exist or are very different in PVc, so I don't see a practical way to migrate the program without rebuilding it.

Thanks Ken. We forked out the extra 600 beer tokens and exchanged it for a Panelview Plus. Have now got it all working except for control list selectors, which don't respond to touch, not even on application test. I've checked all the attributes and tags and read all the help to no avail. Are trhere any known issues with contro list selectors? I tried the standard one and also piloted one - both seem dead. It's a touch only screen by the way.

There is some crossover there. You can import Panelbuilder32 applications into Factory Talk View. It's one-way but better than redoing everything again. About the only thing I noticed that gets lost for the most part is all the communication settings have to be fixed.

I still really dislike PV+ with a passion.

One of the PanelBuilder features I miss the most in PanelViewPlus (well, FactoryTalk) is being able to see all of the screen content in the left pane. A screen builder could have tons of hidden or overlapping features and there is no easy way to see it all.
