Some PanelView Standard models with RS-232 ports can be changed between DF1 and DH485 protocols. The PanelView 300 Micro is the most common model to undergo this (unsupported) change.
All other PanelView Standard terminals have unchangeable hardware identifiers that do not permit the incorrect or different firmware to be run on the terminal. A terminal built with a DH+ module, like yours, identifies its DH+ daughterboard to the runtime firmware even if the module has failed or been removed. If the runtime firmware detects that it's not built for a DH+ terminal, it will halt loading, which you have seen.
PanelView Standard terminals with a dedicated-purpose network daughtercard (DH+, ControlNet, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP) can use the RS232 port for upload/download or as a printer port. They will not, no matter what firmware you load onto them, use the RS232 port as a runtime communication port.
Thanks Ken for your reply
Great information
I was hoping that wasn't the case.......Now I've got a couple of PV600's (DH+) which are no good for this job.
Lucky we bought them at a good price.....We live and learn.
Thanks again for the reply.

I could be wrong but I think the ASIC connector that the DH+ card plugs into is where a DF1/DH485 card plugs into the other units. The printer port is off an Aux ASIC and is either present as printer or not.
No fact just hunch to back up the above statement.
Thanks BobLfoot for your insight.
I've looked at the mother board for both model types and the No-option version (standard RS232 DF1) card looks identical to a DH+ with printer version.......albeit with the option card installed.
ie..When the option card is removed they both look the same.
Ken Roach seems to sum it up pretty well.
Rockwell wins again!!
