We had some machine updates completed by outside contractors.

After they were done they left without giving us a copy of the new program.

The Update consisted of a new SLC setup ( 5/04 ) where none was before.

Will we be able to hook-up to the processor and do a upload ?

If so, how do we prepare for it .

Thanks in Advance

SLC 5/04 will require RSlogix 500 and RSlinx to upload the program. It will also require either a serial port on your PC and a serial cable, or a DH+ Card and a DH+ Cable between the SLC and the PC. If they isntalled a 1761-net-eni on the SLC serial port you will also have the option of ethernet connectivity. A lot will depend on the hardware connected to the SLC 5/04 CPU Ports.

There is the possibility that they applied source protectionm but I cannot comment on this feature as I don't use or allow for its use.

have you just called them up and asked them to email you a copy of the .RSS file? ... if you do an upload you won't get any comments and similar documentation ...

if you tell us more about what you have available to work with, then we can give you a more detailed answer ...

Ron beat me to it. Pretty bad deal if they won't provide your files if you ask.

I just want to add that in the future you should write into your contract and/or purchase order that an electronic copy of the PLC program and a documented printout or pdf version of the program shall be included in the scope of the work. If this is a custom machine and you paid them for program development then you also own the intellectual property rights to the software - in the future that should be spelled out in the contract.
