My plant is chock full of AB 1791 Standard Block I/O modules. These are DIN mount and have a 6.95" high by 2.71" wide footprint. They are also all but obsolete.

I've experimented with AB 1794 Flex IO modules now and I'm quite comfortable with them...except, they have the opposite problem. They mount more or less horizontally. A network adapter card plus one module is 6.4" wide by 3.7" high.

There is usually enough room between modules that if I could somehow mount a piece of DIN rail on top of another DIN rail except hang it vertical instead of horizontal that I could mount a Flex IO module where an old standard block IO module once stood.

Does anyone know of a clip or something available to hang one piece of DIN rail onto an existing DIN rail except to flip the direction 90 degrees? Physically it's short enough that I'm not worried about the stability issue (I'm not going to hang another DIN rail 24" long off it).

'Top hat' Din rail or 'G' type?
Anywhos - I've been known to drill holes in them and mount 'cross rails' on standoff's - mounting the cross rails on a few inches of m6 threaded stud with double nuts.

In fact with a bit of doubling up you can make a strong enough 'stand' to take a door interlocking isolator.

If you cant drill them? a lightweight device could be mounted off some earth terminals?
