Hi Guys,
I need to connect a second rack to an SLC 500 but the longest cable which is 4 feet is too short. Does anyone know of a longer cable maybe 8 feet. I looked on the AB parts list but none available. Can I patch the cable? anyone have a similar experience with this?
Thanks Much!

the book says that the 1747-C16 is "the longest chassis interconnect cable recommended by Allen-Bradley" ... personally I wouldn't try splicing the cable to make it longer ... what are you trying to do, add a chassis to an already crowded enclosure? ... can you post a sketch of the layout? ... maybe we can come up with another idea - beside the obvious 1747-SN (Scanner) and 1747-ASB (Adapter) for a "blue hose" Remote I/O connection ... that's going to be expensive just for an 8 foot run ...

how many I/O points are needed in the extra chassis? ... if there aren't too many, maybe you could replace an existing 16-point module with a new 32-point module ... something like that? ... just a wild guess ...

give us more details and we'll try to help ... "stretching" that cable though is probably just going to make problems ...

No.( not recommended)See Picture. Your only option is remote I/O rack see PDF

Thanks Ron and Mickey!
Yep I was aware of the warning limits for the interconnect cable length but was just wondering if anyone had tried "stretching" it. I already have a 1747 - SN scanner and it's using about 3 logical words now but my new panel is going to need more. I have a spare 5/05 so I think i'm just going to make the new expansion panel a 5/05 and just put it on my control network. Thanks much for your responses, you guys are great!
