Hi all,

I am new to the forums and also very new to PLCs in general. I have been tinkering around with automated processes at the job for about 8 months now and am running a GE/Fanuc 90-30 via LM90 and iFix softwares. I am wondering if there is, by default, some way to enable network communication so I may monitor my processes remotely, or if I must purchase it? I would assume this applies to my iFix software particularly as it is the process' user interface. Have written Intellution/GE and haven't gotten a response. No documentation, as far as I know, in my company's files! Any ideas?

Oh, and I'm on a lead that's pointing to "Fix32 Gateway." Am I on the right track?

Thanks!

Richard

You leave too much to be interpreted, what exactly do you mean by "monitor my processes remotely"?
It can be done but the best way may depend on this answer. What means are now in place?
Serial, ethernet, modems, intranet, etc. The fact that you have LM90 indicates that this may be a very old system. With the 90-30 it will be simpler using Proficy ME.

By "network communication", I assume you mean ethernet. You will have to install an ethernet module (IC693CMM321) in a spare I/O slot or install a CPU374 module.

It is possible to connect multiple 90-30s on a serial RS485 network. Wiring details for a multi-drop serial network are given in the hardware manual GFK-0356. You can download it from the GE Fanuc support site.
