I am new to RS5000 so please be easy. I am looking at a program and trying to find out how my ControlLogix is communicating to the Toshiba drives via RIO. I have the Toshiba manual and can see the correct data in the control tag but have no idea about how it got there.

Can anyboby shed some light on this for me?

The boss has said the I get to go to 5000 training "Ron Beaufort" in or after Feb. so maybe my NEWBIE questions will slow way down and I can answer not just ask.

Greetings Jeff ...

there are no BTR or BTW instructions in RSLogix5000 ... instead look for MSG commands that are "set up" internally as BTR and BTW ... inside the setup screen, the "Message Type" will show "Block Transfer Write" or "Block Transfer Read" ... on the Communications tab, you should see the "Rack" and "Group" and "Slot" address of your Remote I/O equipment ...

if this doesn't help nail it, just give me a call ... today is one of those days where I've got more time available to talk than type ...

survival tip: if the Toshiba drives are talking on Allen-Bradley's Remote I/O link, then the drives must have "Rack/Group/Slot" addresses assigned to them ... it would be a good idea to nail down exactly what those addresses are before you start looking for the needle in the haystack ... note that the best way to check this is usually at the Toshiba end of the line ...

update: just talked to Jeff by phone ... not sure how I got the impression that he needed Block Transfers for his Toshiba hardware (I think my feeble mind blurred the subject in this thread with the subject in another) ... anyway ... I think we're on the right track now ...

looks like each of his drives requires a half rack of data - and the CompactLogix addressing is taking care of the transfer ...
