Hi folks... I've been asked by the boss to do a small project involving a chemical metering pump. We are using a clorine sensor and a chart recorder now and manually adjusting the metering pump as needed but he wants to take all the manual error out of play and use a plc to sense the clorine and adjust the speed of the pump. I'm going to need at least 2 analog inputs and 1 output. We hane RS logix 500 vers. 5.00. I downloaded the ML1200 and 1500 referance manual and noticed under "summary of changes" {page iii} that "to use all of the features" vers. 6.10.10 was required. Can I still use either of these controllers with vers 5.00 or am I going to run into major problems?
Any help or advice is appreaceated.
Thanks and later...Todd

For such a small application I think the MicroLogix 1200 would be the right choice, with a 1762-IF2OF2 combination analog module attached. Another option is the MicroLogix 1100, which has two built-in analog inputs and a built-in Ethernet port.

As far as the software... you're looking at an edition that is several years old. You won't be able to program a new controller of any type with version 5. If you do any A-B work at all it's worth it to get the small eConnect Tech Connect contract and get included upgrades and support for all of your software.

You may want to first check the specs first on those embedded Micrologix analog inputs. As an example, the ML1100 analog inputs are only 0..1023 on 10V and have a 100msec response time. So it could be too slow with low resolution for your specific application. The 1762-IF4 analog input card has more resolution (15 bit) but is even slower yet with a 130msec response.

Can you give me a ballpark figure what that contract would cost, this might be a way for me to squeeze an upgrade out them. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

I believe the contract is based upon the number of processors. Call them up and get a quote for the e-connect.
