"CANbus" is a generic term for CAN-based networks, and could cover quite a few industrial automation network protocols like CANOpen, CAN Kingdom, SDS, DeviceNet, J1939, etc.
CANOpen tends to use the generic term to refer to their protocol. It's far more common in Europe and with PC-based and custom machines than it is in North America and with general-purpose programmable controllers.
I don't know of a 1746-series scanner module for CANOpen. I'm willing to be surprised, though.
