I have a customer in Philly that is requesting that we provide PLC-5's in parallel for an existing project. I've seen parallel, or hot backups, with Quantum's and Hima's but I've not seen any application information regarding PLC-5s.

Anyone ever do any of that or know if it can be done? Any links to reference data?

Thanks.

I've not done it, but I believe there is a PLC 5 hot backup / redundant setup using controlnet I/O. I'd check teh literature library. IT si not publicised because of COntrolLogix redundancy, but it is there I beleive.

I don't know about a control net option. I have done it with the BSN modules. The manual lays it out ok. It is not very intuitive. We have been strongly recommending to our customers to move away from PLC5. I know some customers can't change. wow.gif

The Hot Backup is mentioned in the Knowledgebase under technote 8353 and in the manual found at http://www.ab.com/manuals/cp/17856524.pdf

With PLC 5 processor to make it redundancy there are two ways

1. on controlnet Hot backup with CHBM modules in controlnet plc5 processor

2. On Rio with BCM & BEM modules for all type of PLC 5 processsors

Once agaiin this board and it's members come through and help an old Sailor!

This is almost like the network I had in 1972-77 when I was an EW in the Navy. Then I had the whole east coast of shared experiences and now I'm dealing with worldwide talent!

Thanks all.
